all these posts reminds me of this Tom the Dancing Bug comic about two guys from the 1910's standing around saying "It is quite queer how gay I am feeling today!" etc and the ad for next week had one of the guys holding a rooster and saying "I have something to give you!"

Hey guys... Haven't chatted in a while.. saw one of you was curious what I thought about Alan Scott coming out of the closet. Hmmm.. I care a little. I've never been interested in his character before. Now that he's fresh meat on the market.. I'm still not interested. I like Batwoman because I like the horror themes, the artwork. I do care that there are more comics out there with gay characters. When Batwoman got her own title I was happy to see that there was demand enough for it. That and Greg Rucka always did a great job with her character. It reminds me people's attitudes are changing though when DC announces a gay MALE character. I am happy about that. But unless the writer and artist are good enough, I don't think I'll buy it. I think if Alan Scott went on archaeological adventures like an indiana jones type with super powers and he romanticized exotic men like Jame's Bond does exotic women... I would be all over that. So hot. But I doubt Alan Scott will do much of anything gay other than have a boyfriend or something and say it's mean to bully. I think it's swell and all, but it doesnt make we want to read anything.

I laugh when people are concerned about gay acceptance. Like a comic book is going to turn a kid gay. Hysterical.

I think I read a post from Chris or someone about forcing a writer to write a gay character, and I don't see the difference from forcing a writer to write a straight character, or not-gay character. The way I understood it was that DC's editors told the writers what sort of story to write and the writer get's some marginal creativity depending on whether it's Tony Daniel or Grant Morrison. I also don't think a lot of dudes want to walk up to the comic store guy and buy the comic about the gay dude.. at least not in my town. If I end up getting the Gay Lantern Comic, I may be the only one in my town who does.

That's interesting, because that would rarely affect my buying decisions. I didn't know that Batwoman was gay until recently, as I never read that comic, but due to raves on here it was on my list to check out. I also like her look and thought she was cool in the couple of guest appearances I have read. Finding out about her orientation didn't affect the desire to check that stuff out one way or the other.

Now, I know that guys tend to react differently when it's a gay male, but I guess I never thought about them being ashamed to get rung up.

"But I doubt Alan Scott will do much of anything gay other than have a boyfriend or something and say it's mean to bully."

I'm guessing he'll be like Northstar whose boyfriend has often been a 'damsel in distress' lately.

Actually that was me but I would have no problem writing a gay character. Before it was announced that it was Alan Scott I thought it may be an actual character that anyone cared about and could have currently been writing. What I found objectionable was that if a writer were writing about a character for say 9 issues and portraying the character as straight and was suddenly told by the publisher that the character suddenly had to be gay that that would be unfair to the writer. Same if they were writing a gay character and were suddenly told to make them straight. DC has has a tendency as of late to just spring marketing ploys on the comic comunity which includes creators, retailers and fans. I really dislike their new shock and awe method of moving product.

Earth mightiest cancel at request of Loeb I really hate that guy now instead of just a mild dislike.

Been a rough year for me as a comic fan the only good thing so far was the avengers movie. And Fury Max and Fatale, ninjettes was funny but eh. Well, atleast EMH was good while it lasted... I basicly told my friend to stop bothering sending me stuff as it all wasnt really worth reading for me. Thats bad when DC Marvel have a product I wont even read for free. On the up side I got my hands on some old first run trades of hulk, FF, and Avengers stuff awesome they really dont draw or write them like that anymore.

They are going to do a new Avengers Assemble show set in the same Universe as Ultimate spiderman so yeah thats going to suck.

Now continue the 2 week argument about the gay thing that even our token gay contributor barely cares about. How ya been dusty BTW! Good going DC luckly the media has nothing better to cover besides afirican genocide, children arimies, sryia massacres, Wall street corruption or just about every thing else but no DC making Barry Allen gay and the return of Dallas gets all the press! I didnt care anyway new 52 blows now. How can you screw up a perez book out the gate!?

Sorry about the tone but after ms marvel, T-bolts, AvX, new 52, EMH canceled, and this young justice invasion mess I'm a little bitter. :)

That or it might have to do with the battlestar finale that I finally watched. WTH was that! Starbuck just disappears what a lazy slapped together ending for that story.

Oh are they doing anything with parkers last T-bolt line up with satanna, troll, hyde, ghost, and moonstone. The writing got pretty bad those last couple issues I read since it was obivious parker was rushing to wrap it up. Knowing what was coming I quit reading. That was it for me across the board. I think I'll read back issues like always but I'm done with DC Marvel for awhile not like a couple weeks or wait for event to be over like I'm done out, quit, that french word I dont know how to spell for finished.

Even the last fable trade I read wasnt very good by that franchise standard at least.

Now then, Zombie horse!! hello! Game of thrones!! Half-man, come on! How freaking awsome was the last 2 episodes.

Whats that indy thing hickman is working on I may check that one out. I may have just burned myself out these past 5 years or so reading so many comic books but I just think the quality has gotten out of control and the stories and alot of the art just isnt that good.

I'm not reading any DC now and very few Marvel. Almost entirely stuff by Boom!, Dynamite and Image. I did pick up Defenders this week because I saw the Dodsons were back on art. And I picked up AvX 4&5.

Exile on the Planet of the Apes was awesome this week. Haven't read the rest of my haul yet.

...B.The wise....wait...Barry Allen is gay? I am confused who is gay now? I have to agree with B the W about being blase about buying comics in 2012. The positive is that my pull is so small. I've been out of town 2 weeks and my pull was just 3 books...and one was Rachel Rising....a non-DC/Marvel. That and Atomic Robo are the only 2 I read a few panels while waiting for a light. The rest I can wait until I get home. I even have a Blue beetle and an Atomic Man from 2 months ago that I haven't read.

I have to get on the Game of thrones bandwagon....every episode that passes, I worry that if I start, I'll be doing a 48 hour marathon. Maybe just rent from Hastings. They offer single discs with just two episodes per disc. ...Or wait for family reunion in July (in-laws, not a fun time) to watch GofT

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 8, 2012 12:56:27 AM PDT
No not barry allen I didnt even realize I did that. Opps! That green lantern guy that no one cares about from pre crisis his weakness is wood. Wait how can this guy be gay!? How's that going to work, "hey nice package you got there mind if I see whats inside", zzzip, "Oh no I've lost my powers! And just when that villain appears to destroy us all"

BTW Thats totaly how gay men hit on each other right dusty? I guess atleasts he has a good excuse when he has performance problems in bed. Or to get out of a bad quicky.

DK If I can go through the entire galactica saga in 3-4 days. 2 seasons of GOT isnt going to hurt. :)

No way would I pay for most of the stuff thats out now. Even the few things I did like I wouldnt pay the 3.99 and 2.99 price tag. I dont care how good the paper is!

Game of Thrones

... was amazing. I've read all the books so far, so I knew what was going to happen. Still I cried, got angry and was even surprised watching Season 2: A Clash of Kings. The show made more changes from the books than they did in Season 1, but I definitely think it's for the better. Some events are told second-hand in the books, but the show did a great job of bringing those moments to life too.

SPOILERS

I had no problem with it, but some fans are disappointed in the end scene with Daenarys and her dragons. In the books there's more prophecies and visions, but I think the show did great by stripping the event to it's bare essentials. I think Game of Thrones will go down as one of the best shows in history like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars for movies. It's the best story I've ever read and it's not even finished.

Battlestar Galactica was EPIC!!!

B the W. I too did the Battle star Galactica marathon. They offered it free on one of the sites (SciFi) before showing the last season. By the time I was done I was so exhausted and drained, I never did watch that last episode. so I don't really know what happened after they spent a few months? years? on that planet. LOL.
Our local comic con starts today, ACE, Albuquerque Comic Expo. I must be the only one not going. I am still burnt-out from FCBD and all the photos I took. I stopped by my LCBS and all the guys were exhausted and the convention hasn't even started. The store was empty, looked like a bomb had exploded....complete opposite of what it looked like during FCBD. I guess for comic book retailers, FCBD and conventions are their Xmases and Thanksgiving.

BTW, I picked up Dial H for Hero. One of you guys discussed it. couldn't remember if someone said it was + or - I thought it sucked....aaargh... And old premise.....becoming a different hero as needed...a la "Ben 10." Artwork sucked. Looked like the work of a local hack...who struggles in the trenches. Family and friends say he is great...but never breaks through, because he is basically talentless. However, DC picks him up for the worthless launch of second tier of DC 52 "funky" superheroes. Aaaargh, I could have used that money for a very tiny coffee at Starbucks. A book like this makes Ben 10 look like a fantastic show.

Game of thrones
I havent read the book so dont know the difference. But thought the last episode was real good esp coming off the king landing invasion episode which was just mind blowing. I thought calisi (SP?) vision was so sweet and a great scene esp when she hears her children and walks away. The whole finale was sort of touching and great way to wrap up this season. Plus ZOMBIE HORSES!! Also the scene were Lanaster finally see whats her names fighting skill may make him re think mouthing off to her all the time. I loved the look on his face after that.

I was kind of "ahhh" at the daughter not going to train to be a faceless one. Cant wait till next year until then.....

True Blood
Uhmm yeah that was just weird, I think the way they left last season while a great cliff hanger defiantly hurt the opening episode. Even with the "last time on" intro it was hard to jump back in the middle of all that was going on. Nothing really popped for me in this episode except for the very end. Those that saw know what I'm talking about. Its not that anything was bad, well outside the Rock band scene. But nothing was really great either.

Ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb! Where's pam when you need her, I wanted all those people to die. Including jess, and thats a first. BTW did jason get raped it seemed they kind of hinted at that? So yeah if this keeps up I may join the kill jess camp of fans. Oh the stupid merlot scene with the workers that was god awful.

DK
Battlestar so you never watched season 4 then. Yeah they didnt stay on that planet in the show for too long maybe 4 episodes or so. Though they were on the planet in the story for a year or two.

Dethklok
Kill Toki for the love of god will someone Kill toki!! That show has become so un brutal.

comic
I got nothing.

Did anyone check out DC's Night Force? Kind of interesting. Marv Wolfman on writing. Tom Mandrake does the art and it sort of alternates between pretty good and pretty horrible.

Picked up Avengers vs Xmen 4&5. Not bad. Shadow #2 was more entertaining than #1 but it's got a ways to go before I'm convinced. Picked up Superbia 3&4. This is a fun series. It reminds me of DC's 90s series Young Heroes In Love. Not complex at all, but good, silly fun. Finished off the first story arc in Fatale. That was a great series. Saw that the Dodsons were back on the latest issue of Defenders so I picked that up. That was pretty good too. And I bought the first of the Before Watchmen books, Minutemen #1 by Cooke. It came with a free copy of the new Bleeding Cool magazine which seems to be fashioned after the old Movieline mag from the 90s. Only problem is that Movieline had some great, witty writers and Bleeding Cool doesn't.

I will have a double Wednesday this week but I think the only books that came in (super light week for me) were the Shadow
GROO VS CONAN
ACTION COMICS
SMALLVILLE SEASON 11
MUDMAN #4
and DARK AVENGERS

As a fan of True Blood the only way I can defend this episode is that I love it but it has always been a pulp style, pug-dum moronic show. Seriously, I love it but it has always been a really dumb show.
I will defend the the Rock Band scene, not that I play the game but her character relating to the Runaway's Chery Bomb was kind of defining who Jess had become with the painfully obvious metaphor of being an innocent girl and once bitten becoming a wild child/vampire. Given the meaning of the song and the fact that Jess and Cherie Currie have so much in common I would have been surprised if she had not sung it at some point. She is, at the end of the day, a messed up teen and singing drunk to video games like Rock Band is something not uncommon at teen parties.

I finally had a chance to read Marvel's free comic "the summer of spiderman" (Amazing SpiderMan, Avenging Spiderman, Spidermen), I was impressed with the stories and art. Avenging Spiderman has Terry Dodson at the wheel, and work looked good, not overly Dodson cute.

Has anyone been following any of these Spidermans stories?

Not me. I had to drop Amazing because I hate the new supporting cast and that Doc Oc story was just uggly and refused to end.
Is Avenging Spider-Man good? I have seen the covers but never flipped through a copy.

It was me and I thought Dial H was terrible. It was in no way a Ben 10 inspired series though. The orogininal Dial H was a comedic super fun series by Jim Mooney that first appeared as a feature in House of Mystery circa 1966. The concept was the same but it did not read like something Grant Morrison wrote as a one page diversion in Doom Patrol.
If you want to read a super funky comic buy the DC Showcase Presents: Dial H For Hero you can nab it for $5 used on Amazon.
Will Phifer did a mod 90's "serious" take on Dial H that was not whimsicle but it was readable. The new Dial H is just further proof that DC is tossing goober balls at the wall, wondering what might stick. Boo!

What does this mean? There's still going to be 52 episodes total, RIGHT?!?!?!?!?! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEBB!

"Oh are they doing anything with parkers last T-bolt line up with satanna, troll, hyde, ghost, and moonstone. The writing got pretty bad those last couple issues I read since it was obivious parker was rushing to wrap it up. "

OK, now I really don't understand why Parker's 172-174 arc sucked so bad. T-Bolts 175 was just re-branded as Dark Avengers which could be temporary like Incredible Hulk being rebranded as Incredible Herc. I had no problem with that issue because it continued T-Bolts threads and the crew you asked about are still being searched for.

Art,

I hear ya. I have not picked up my comics yet but as long as the storyline continues and Jeff is still writing it I don't care if they change the tittle to "Booger Sniffers." I think Dark Avengers is a silly tittle but I really only care what is inside the book.
Going to go out on a limb and say unless Avengers fever does not boost sales drastically it will just go back to Thunderbolts to preserve the numbering.

EMH Avengers
From what I heard Loeb wants total control and now that he is head of Marvel Media Division he wants to move everything into one studio. He also wants to do a avengers show thats stand alone episodes with self contained stories instead of a seasonal arc. As well as joining the ulitimate Spidey show world setting with this new avengers show.

They are up to episode 18 or 19 of season 2 in aussie oy oy oy. We will have to wait.

Small spoiler
we do get to see vision up in there.

T-bolts
IDK I just quickly lost interest during those issues. I was totally into it up until then. And it was 1 issue and I was done cant explain it. Maybe it is my patients is thin after this year with this kind of junk. After dropping all of dc outside of fables and lossing all my titles that I liked with NOTHING to replace them with and horrible big events that over take every book I like at marvel. When news of T-bolts ending came around I just threw my hands up and went ok I quit. Both DC and Marvel need to clean house from the top down when it comes to this stuff. They need a gate keeper some steel not a bunch of writers running things. No offense to writers.. but it seems that the guys in charge arent letting the writers write because they still want to be writing. Let your writer write and leave them the hell alone unless they are doing something really stubid like having spidey trade his marriage for a 160 year old dead aunt.

True Blood chris
Yes it was fitting but we didnt have to see it!!! Yes its a dumb pulp show but that dumb? I mean just hit us with a brick next time. I'm worried that maybe Harris has giving Bell a little too much freedom this season. The whole show seemed to barely be held together by a thin frayed string. THen again it is coming on after GOT great season so it may skew our viewing perception some. But I think we all agree not the best start for true blood.

Pam still rocks we just need a pam show.. Why was she wearing a wal mart sweat suit btw? That was just thrown out there for no reason at all.

Evil editorial mandates - aaaarrrrr

I keep thinking of better stories that could have been told. Tony Stark once had a bad heart, but being rich and inventive eventually fixed that. Aunt May on the other hand has had a bad ticker for 45 years or 12 Marvel years. Since she doesn't have the rich option, I think it would have been more interesting if Peter had lost his mind and pleaded with Morbius to bite her and make her a vampire.

After all, Mephisto brought her back to life but she could still keel over tomorrow of a lack of wheat germ or something. If Aunt May was a vampire it would be fun to see Spidey trying to protect her from Blade and stuff whilst battling his conscience whilst still trying to fight crime.

I think a few editors forgot that Mephisto was the Devil because that deal Peter made with him has had zero hidden clause repercussions and we recently discovered that M.J.'s mind was not wiped. This would be the first time in the history of fiction that a contract with the Devil went great for the dope who signed it.
