Just seeing this post now. Usually this is not used as an excuse but as an explanation for why a piece of artwork is so great. Just finding this ironic. Of course, there have also been instances of people mistakenly believing that an artist was high when in fact they were sober (Frank Zappa and the Mothers were a band that people assumed were baked or on acid at all times).
