Hi B. Woodley:~
the cd I found Hinson on was (you're gonna love this) "Bubbahey Mud Truck"
it is a FireAnt production, from NC but I got mine off Amazon.
For folks who like some humor with their honkey-tonk music this is an enjoyable CD!

Hmm, I've never heard of the Backsliders. Will have to look them up. I think Unknown Hinson is an "independent" act if you will. I only found out about him 3 months ago, but I'm fascinated by him. He's a great musician (guitarist) and funny to boot.

Anyways, thanks for the words of support; I do like alt country better than mainstream these days. Like you say, most of it's bland or generic pop stuff to my ears. I don't like that in any genre - - I like music that's interesting and has an edge to it, whether it's rock, blues, country or whatever.

Have a great day!

"Stand On It," by Mel McDaniel. And I like the idea of Grandma gettin' run over by the reindeer. I forgot about that one.

Isn't Unknown Hinson part of, or associated with, the Backsliders group? They do (IMHO) interesting & cool music so thanks for your post.
Long live "Alt Country", if it wasn't for "musical rebels" we'd have nothing but bland "radio pap" available!

Ray Stevens's "Mississippi Squirrel Revival." Also Ray Stevens's "Santa Claus Is Watching You." Those songs and videos to both always cracked me up. Cletus T. Judd, can be pretty funny, but Ray Stevens I t hink is funnier. Also Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue."

I'm going far afield here and I'll probably get skewered for it, but I vote for "Venus Bound" by Unknown Hinson. Okay, he's very, very alternative country, but this is funny to me!! Plus, the stupid video on YouTube is hilarious!!!! For "mature" audiences only, LOL!!

"Boney Fingers" was a Hoyt Axton hit, "Chicken Truck" draws a super mental picture, doesn't it? LOL

Not sure if these two have been mentioned, but "Bony Fingers" (not sure who sang that one) and John Anderson's "Chicken Truck". A couple that always make me chuckle when I hear them.

Excellent, thanks for your mention of C.W.McCall, a fantastic comedy songwriter/performer!

"Classifieds" may be the best comedy skit ever, and sadly I had overlooked it!

I spent almost $10 once in a jukebox, trying to learn the words to "Wolf Creek Pass", still got most of 'em in my head! Bless ol' Earl and that '48 Peterbilt!

Another funny country song is "Men" by the Forrester Sisters "they buy you dinner, open your door, other than that what are they good for?"

Dallas, Pinkard & Bowden did song parodies in the '80s.

They were on a major label, Warner Brothers.
They managed to get one single barely into the Country Top-40 chart.
"Mama She's Lazy", a parody of The Judds "Mama She's Crazy", peaked at #39.

Some of their other better parodies were..........

"Blue Hairs Driving In My Lane", (Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain")
"She Thinks I Steal Cars", (George Jones' "She Thinks I Still Care")
"Drivin' My Wife Away", (Eddie Rabbitt's "Drivin' My Life Away")
"Propane", (Eric Clapton's "Cocaine")

and my personal favorite............

"Help Me Make It Through the Yard", (Sammi Smith's "Help Me Make It Through the Night")

Dallas, you only have one by Cledus? Which one? He has quite a few now.

I think my favorite two by Cledus are.......
"Cledus Went Down to Florida", (Charlie Daniels Band's "The Devil Went Down to Georgia")
"How Do You Milk a Cow?" (Toby Keith's "How Do You Like Me Now?")

Oh, and there's his version of Faith Hill's overblown "Breathe"...........
"................I can smell your BREATH.........it's gagging me to death.........."

I love it!!!

Glad to see this thread going again!

I just got a CD by Corb Lund that has a song called "It's time to switch to whiskey" that I sure enjoy.

Also Eleven Hundred Springs has a number called
"Long haired tattooed hippie freaks" that is well worth a close listen because it is full of irony!

Finally, let's not forget "Rednecks, white socks & blue ribbon beer" if you need a description of 5 o'clock everywhere!!

For comedy songs, my money always goes to Dr. Demento. In this case, his CD "Country Corn" is *well* worth the money (http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Dementos-Country-Corn-Demento/dp/B0000033LP/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1216614588&sr=1-6).

It has several songs already mentioned:

Anyone remember Pinkard & Bowden from the '80s?

Long before Cledus T. Judd (No Relation).

And I would have to list C.W. McCall's recordings as some the funniest country singles.
All most people seem to remember is "Convoy", but "Wolf Creek Pass" & "Classified"
are priceless.

Tommy Collins had some pretty funny songs out in the mid 1950's to late 1960's that I liked, such as You Better Not Do That, What'cha Gonna Do Now?, and probably my favorite out of the bunch was a mid 1960's ditty called If You Can't Bite, Don't Growl.

There have been some funny recitations, such as Hank Snow's rendition of The Cremation Of Sam McGee, It's In The Book, by Johnny Standley, and of course Andy Griffith's What It Was, Was Football.

OK I'm late to this thread

Of those already mentioned, I agree particularly with "The bird" and "Mississippi squirrel revival"

but here's some that haven't been mentioned

Hank Williams Jr - Satin sheets - very funny answer to Jeanne Pruett's original song
Ray Stevens - Shriner's convention
Ray Stevens - Haircut song
Ray Stevens - It's me again, Margaret
Ray Stevens - The streak
Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn - You're the reason our kids are so ugly
Loretta Lynn - Mad Mrs Jess Brown
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton - Her and the car and the mobile home (I think it's a cover, not sure who did original)
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton - I've been married just as long as you have
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton - Run that by me one more time
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton - We'd have to be crazy
Jeannie C Riley - Harper Valley PTA
Tom T Hall - The monkey who became president
