YUF: Perfectly in-sync with these great choices. I knew Caia, but not the cut you mentioned, and especially loved Beth Orton and the Cantoma cut-marisi.

Nice thread,

My wife and I are huge nu-jazz enthusiests. I call it "electronic music for adults." We have pretty much given up on the top 40 trash they call music for quite some time.

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés Café series are very good for nu-jazz lovers. Pretty much all of them are good. It must be noted though, that St. Germain the actual artist, has nothing to do with this series. The the CD series is named after St. Germain, a cafe in Paris that specializes in jazz, not the nu jazz/jazz house artist that happens to use that name. They usually sell as imports (very hard to find in record stores) and can be found on amazon. I would also recommend nu jazz anthology. Its a 4 CD set that covers many nu jazz hits from the mid 90s to 2007.

U Moore....Thanks for the post I am aware of St Germaine des prez mixes we actually discussed them earlier but I do not own any as of yet...you are right they are hard to come by and somewhat expensive. The other you mentioned nu jazz anthology I just found on amazon for $25.00 but for a 4 cd set its not bad....I might buy it with my gift certificate I just received. Another I would like to suggest for you is the ( jazz lounge ) they have 4 volumes each a two cd set all nu jazz not old school jazz. Check them out I am sure you will love them... Thanks for the post and keepem coming ....Mike

A great cut off the Hotel Costes: Etage 3 is: Stephane Pompougnac - Pnc Aux Portes....it's on YouTube, and has been on my iPod daily now for months. The whole series is worth owning.

Mike,

Hello, and your welcome. I have jazz lounge 2. I like it, very down tempo, but very good evening type music. My favorite track is a remixed version of Mr. Scruff's giffin on CD 2. I didn't know there was a volume 3 and 4. I'll have to look into that.

I have many favorite tracks. Just a few I can suggest: Gabin's remix of Peggy Lee's "Fever." You can nearly picture yourself in a smoky lounge with her singing to this remix. A track from hotel costes II, Carnaval de São Vicente, the Jazzy Carnival Mix by Césaria Évora. It's completely in Portugese (I think), but if you can't imagine yourself on a beach somewhere listening to this song, you may want to get your head checked. Sound of Everything by Quantic featuring Alice Russell (who makes this song). I also like "Tony Williams" by Herbie Hancock, its on his "Future to Future CD" It's a nu-jazz tribute to Williams using one of his own drum tracks, a must hear for drum fans. Dinah Washington "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby?" verve remix. Awesome track and great driving song. I also like "Change" from Bugge Wesseltoft.

As for nu-jazz anthology, it has some of the music on the des-pres-cafe compilations, but as you mentioned, much cheaper, which is nice considering it's 4 full CDs.

I don't know if this has been mentioned here yet, but has anyone heard anything from the Verve Remixed CDs? I was thinking of getting them and wanted an opinion about them.

U.Moore.....The Jazz lounge is 4 volumes total...All very Good...Regarding your other suggestions....I have both Gabin cd's Both are excellent...Hotel costes I am just starting to collect but hope to get them all....Quantic ..I just bought apricot morning but have not received it yet ...I already own announcment to the answer. I think he has a whole album with that singer or maybe its Alice Russell??? His cd's seem to hold their value too...somewhat expensive. The verve remixes are all pretty good.... there seems to be a few good tracks on each as well as a couple of duds but I have all four and they are not bad , worth getting if you can find them used. Thanks for the nujazz anthology suggestion I just bought it on amazon. Mike

YUF: I wasn't sure if had been you, but who ever it was, LAST.FM has literally changed my life, in the way YouTube did. I built a profile, added music I could never find anywhere, and spent hours on it, listening and watching videos. I've only scratched the surface, and so many other members they match you up with worldwide, to connect to, with even more music they have collected. I'll also ck out helpmechill.com. That could have led me to it..can't remember for sure.

Michael,

Let me know what you think of the nu jazz anthology. There are so many good tracks on there. I like the fact that I can pay money for this type of music, and not get a record that has only 2 good tracks, which explains my disdain for most mainstream/top 40 music.

Question to the forum:

Which US or even North American cities have a decent nu-jazz scene? I just moved to Colorado in October, and I live about an hour away from Denver. I have yet to check out the nightlife there to do a little recon, but I will when it gets warmer. I have heard San Francisco has one. Montreal of course has the jazz festival, been to Montreal many times, but that was a long time ago. Any suggestions are welcome, since my family and I may take a nice little 4 day to visit such a city during the spring or early summer.

U. Moore....I sure will as soon as it comes in....I just bought a chillout 3cd set I have to review as well.....Regarding the Jazz scene Boston has a new venue called the house of blues its in Cambridge mass....a couple of weeks ago Thievery Corp played there very good. Also Newport Rhode Island has a big Jazz festival every summer as well. Also the berkshire mountains on the western part of mass has a jazz and bluegrass festival every summer. I was in Colorado for a while I lived in Avon loved it....but boy did it get built up fast...last time I was there I didn't recognise it. I just picked up a jazzy loungy cd by Stigmato INC. thats very good the title is Reality check it was pretty cheap on amazon.
