. . I see your point. Women in porno needed to perform anal or make less money. You can go to many porn dvd sites and find more female anal than male gay or male anal performance. I'm not sure why, but, probably, at some point, men got tired of paying women to receive orgasms and wanted them to really earn their money. I believe women were fine (in straight gonzo) and deserved everything they earned, before anal became popular (circa 1970's), but I figure men ( who control the studios) decided anal would sell better. Free porn sites offer anal and females seem to love it. Why? I'm not sure. Most women seem to get a "hug" or vaginal attention after anal. I was told double penetration really got women off, but I'll never know for sure. Anyway, if someone paid one of my female friends $100,000 a year for an hour worth of anal (6 videos a year), they'd do it. . . .

No! It's very much part of female fantasy for this female. In fact, it's the main point of all my fantasies.

Realistic anal sex scene in a M/f story -- Gift to Remember in an anthology by Alice Liddell called Decade of Discipline or something close. It's loving and consensual and very hot. Yes, they use lube and he checks in with her while he's easing in (not shoving in). The story has regular sex and oral sex too. The woman initiates the anal sex as a surprise for the guy -- what male reader wouldn't like THAT part of the story? I liked both characters. Oh, and my experience with anal sex is I absolutely have to wash out before hand. But I've heard that's not true for everyone. Sorry to be graphic, but I think it depends on the consistency of the receiving partner's stools. Time of day can make a difference too.

I think some of you might be missing the point of escaping into a good fantasy erotica. I know the preparation involved in a woman's getting ready for anal intercourse, but I guess I'm in the minority in that I don't want to read about her flushing out before hand and I don't want my guy to constantly checking in to see if I'm okay. I see your points, it's not very realistic. But I'd still rather have the fantasy than the realism.

In this regard, I heartily agree, that the fantasy is better than the reality. I have found in some books that rely to heavily on every minute detail of minutia in regards to anal or anything graphic...causes the story to lose it impact, it's erotica, it's appeal, it's fantasy.

In the fantasy world everything is clean and perfect.

I have to agree with those who said that too much realism can be a bad thing! I am a bit squeamish about anal sex because of the potential mess, but it isn't something I'll say no to if my partner wants--however, if necessary I will say "This is REALLY not a good time because if xyz bodily issues." That may be realistic...but it's truly not something I care to read about in a novel that is supposed to be turning me on! Likewise, while it is something that can get messy in reality, I see no reason to mention that in a book...let's enjoy the fantasy! Of course the necessity of using plenty of lube and warming up is something that it makes more sense to be real about in a story, but I prefer some aspects to be sugar coated just a bit!

Of the stories I have read thus far including a selection of four shorts all about anal, I think they are more fantasy than reality. Saliva as the only lubricant? Yeah right!!

Mercy has pretty realistic anal... lots of prep with buttplugs and lube and condoms and all of that. Never like "we can't have anal today because I'm constipated" realistic, but I don't really want to read that.

I think anal is over-rated in how much prep is needed and how much it hurts. It's more mental than anything.

Wow, what an interesting thread! There is a real mix of opinions here. Firstly, as an erotic fiction author that writes about anal sex a lot, I should point out that we choose to omit those disasterous moments as it's really not what readers want to see! For a lot of people, the purpose of erotica is to 'get them off', as writers we need to embrace and honour that perspective. Therefore, a lot of anal sex in this genre of fiction is, of course, over glamourised.
However, a lot of my work is extremely descriptive, I tend to overwork my narative, that is a purposeful decision that my readers appreaciate. With this in mind, I make sure my anal sex scenes are as realistic as possible. If there is rarely ever a 'straight in' moment, if there is then it is followed by a description of the woman's pain. I enjoy anal sex a lot in my own sex life, therefore I choose to include it in most of my stories. I also strive to write about it in the manner that I enjoy it, that is very graphic and exceptionally hardcore!

I hope this helps the discussion!

One way that I paid for college is a sex/health educator. I explained to many students, gay, straight or curious, that synthetic lubricant is very important especially with condoms. If a condom enters any area that is not properly lubricated there is an increased chance of tearing the condom. I understand that we are just talking fiction here but in case anyone decides to try it in real life I highly recommend the use of synthetic lubricant -- and lots of it.

I actually made the comment to some of my friends about the "new movement" in romance of anal and BDSM. Is it an item on the female wish list? Yeah I think so. I feel that its pretty unrealistic in the m/f books often. They caution "slight discomfort" and then the pain goes away. In the BDSM world they pretty much allude that the pain leads to pleasure. Im not sure how I feel personally even though i've done it a few times. I think the fantasy is a bit better than the reality unless one has the "right person with the right skills" to make it "right".

I do so love my quotation marks'LOL

Judging by the fact that three people have suggested that my previous comments have not added to this conversation, it appears as though authors should keep out of these forums! I'm not here to promote my work, I am here to discuss my interests as a reader. I enjoy books both e books and paper ones that cover a wide variety of subjects, from Russian history to anal sex (not usually a combination of the two). The points I made in both of my previous posts are valid to this conversation. When we read about anal, of course there has to be an element of realism, but it is almost always glamourised, as it is with most areas of sex or romance. That said, I don't appreciate reading stories where there is too much exaggeration. What are your thoughts?

Selena Kitt has a reasonable anal scene in Babysitting the Baumgartners. It wasn't a slam-fest but rather a realistic build up, prep and delivery. There's a surprise incident in Jeni Zook's Skirting The Line Book 1 that is quick but the recipient is not pleased, which adds realism as well.

That comment was based on my own experience...first attempt we did with anal we tried only saliva...she was in too much pain on "impact." Learned our lesson...then loved it! Now..we rarely do it to save it for special occasions. And they are fabulous!

Oh wait this is about literature right? I guess I just like my stories to be close to real life. Ellie makes a great point that we dont want too much realism so fantasies can be fulfilled. But too unrealistic puts me off as well and a lack of lube makes anal seem unrealistic IMO.
