The following information is directed at authors or fans who mistakenly find their way to this forum in order to promote a certain book before finding out the rules.

So here are the rules according to AMAZON:

Self promotion is not permitted by Amazon, except in the Meet Our Authors forum.

A) Read the posting policy of what is and is not allowed
http://www.amazon.com/gp/forum/content/db-guidelines.html/ref=cm_cd_f_h_help

B) Read Amazon's post (that appeared on all forums earlier this year) that specifically says they are cracking down on shameless self promotions

C) Visit the Meet Our Authors forum to self promote or learn about other authors books.

Thanks for posting this. The erotica section had gotten better for a little while, but now it's sinking back to self promo hell.

Emerald,
Coincidence or suspicious? A customer recommends books on three of these Erotica forum threads within the span of an hour and has reviewed 6 of the 9 books the same author currently has for sale on Amazon? Hmmm.... just asking.

beachbaby,

They could be a legitimate super-devoted fan, I suppose. Do they review any other books?

Emerald,
Probably just a super-devoted fan who does review other books as well. It just makes me go "hmmm" when posters continually recommend the same books by the same author over and over in a short period. There is more than one on the erotica forum that is currently doing this. I know this because I have clicked on the book links that have been provided an when they recommend then a second or third time they come up still highlighted.

These two super-devoted fans are also recommending the same books/authors over on the Romance Forum. I guess they are competing with each other for the most repeat recommendations award. And the winner is....

When a reader starts recommending the same books on other forums, I think sock puppet, not devoted fan.

I knew a female erotic author a long time ago....mmm, a great lover as I recall. As I recall, she was promoting herself when I met her. :)

Depends on the book.

Constantly recommending Diana Gabledon or Mary Balogh on the Romance forum? Devoted fan. I can't count how many times I've seen Outlander or Mary Balogh's Simply series recommended, but I doubt any of those recommendations came from the author, their publisher or BFF.

Constantly recommending book by author no one has ever heard of in the correct forum and relevant to OP? Harder to tell. Could be devoted fan, could be sock-puppet (could be both).

Constantly recommending self-published book by author no one has ever heard of, regardless of how relevant it is to OP? Spamming Author, sock-puppet or shill. Not always, maybe, but quacks like a duck...
