Hi all,

Im just curious what authors folks are reading in between the "big" fantasy releases (e.g. the next Rothfuss or Abercrombie book)..... Im a seasoned fantasy reader and Im keen to see what others are into besides the kings of the genre like Erikson, Martin, Jordan etc.

Im currently reading Daggerspell by Katherine Kerr

Considering hitting The Dragons Path after that

Penny for your thoughts.....

I wait for different fantasy books. I'm currently rereading portions of the Mercy Thompson series, by Patricia Briggs.

I actually just picked-up a great new series titled: Ultimate Fantasy. They are a series of thick novellas that I think are amazing! The first book is titled: HEWN, and the author, JG Cuff deserves some recognition. It' self-published but proffessionally edited and very well written. I don't want to give it away but it starts out with a mysterious box... : ) I found it in Fantasy > Arthurian and have 2 young teens who thought it was as great as I did. Other than that, I also really enjoyed The Dagger and The Coin by Dan Abraham.

Try Blood Song (Raven's Shadow Book 1) by Anthony Ryan. I've just finished it and it is well worth the read, Its only $1.84

So the dagger and the coin isnt as slow andf bland as many elitist fantasy fans have claimed?? Anyone read the Black Prism?? I heard that one is an absolute screamer!

The Black Prism is OK, it's not as good as the Night Angel books. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson is brilliant, also Jim Butchers Codex Alera books are quality.

I just finished the second book 'Dragon Lady vs Lady Destiny' in a new series called the 'Isle of the Four Kingdoms' by B.A. Beers and really enjoyed it (took me six hours to read - well worth the time) Downloaded it yesterday and wrote a review today and discovered that it is being offered for free today. If only!!
The first one `The Kingdom of the Seven Shields' was also great. Might want to give these two a try - in my opinion they are a start to an adventure that everyone would want to read.

I just stare at the wall until 4 or 5 in the morning. Oh god why won't the next big fantasy release come out.

I just finished the Realms of Animar. Good and original, I was surprised, it became one of my favorite books. Also working on the Codex Alera run.

Anyone read Songs of the Earth by Elspeth Cooper?

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 8, 2012 2:17:08 AM PDT
I have. I thought it was OK, although not so good that I would go searching for the follow ups. Overall it was a decent enough book.

I have downloaded a few free for the kindle...nothing to really write home about except The Kingdom of the Seven Shields (Isle of the Four Kingdoms) which is more YA but I really loved it. I'm also waiting for the 2nd triology to come out from Rowena Cory Daniells. Her first triology was AMAZING!!! It started a little slow but I have to say this is the series I"m looking forward to the most. The King's Bastard (King Rolen's Kin, Book One)

Great minds think alike. I just started a reread of the Deverry series, I'm almost done with Daggerspell. Sometime after that I may reread Tim Power's _Last Call_. John Crowley's _Little Big_ is on my reread this summer list

Hm, I didn't know that Rothfuss' releases were "big".

I've been on a huge urban fantasy kick for the last little bit. I loved the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne.

I also just started reading Sweet Silver Blues by Glen Cook. It's the first Garrett PI novel. It's from like 1987. I'm enjoying it so far.

Actually, I don't. Right now I'm rereading Jordan (prepping for the finale), but otherwise am taking a break from fantasy. I've been neglecting the classics. So I'm about halfway through Pere Goriot by Balzac; next up will be Hard Times, then Madam Bovary, then Vanity Fair. And eventually finishing Don Quixote.

Is Codex Alera any good? I love the Dresden files.
