I'm looking for an author I can't remember...

The name of the book is called The Legacy, and I think it was published in the late 1970's or early 80's. I think the main character's name was Catherine (or something simliar). The plot is a rich benefactor is dying, so he summons the handful of people he gave rings to. All but the one woman (Catherine or whatever her name was) dies, because she is the true heir to his legacy (which is really these dark powers, not just the money. I guess the family sold their souls or something).

It's a dark book, and I suppose it could fall under gothic fiction.

If anyone remembers the author, thanks for the info!

Try this link, Monica. You'll have to go to each page to find the books titled "The Legacy." I found a couple and I just looked up to page 3. Click on the title and it will give you a brief description.
