@B
You sound very down again, and I am so very sorry. I figure you for Nam and Desert Storm, and I taught guys from both those wars, and the wives of Desert Storm military personnel. Don't have time to back track right now. Have some problems arising from the wealthy side of the L. family; but you claimed 63 in Jan. and shipped out of Norfolk? That means Navy if you knew Camp Lejeune, for marines on the east ship out of this town, MHC.
Correct me if my assumptions are wrong. Thought you were better from the cough; hope it is not really any more serious.

Yes, I treasure my memories--all of them. And I have quite a few, but I would gladly shag with you on the sandy floors of Virginia Beach anytime. I learned to shag when rock and roll started at Spivey's Beach Pavilion. South Myrtle Beach (not Ocean Drive as most people think) to tunes like "Sixty-Minute Man" and "Drinking Wine, Spo-de-o-d-e." whatever the correct spelling was.

Always loved rock and roll and jazz. Went to concerts of black groups when they made us stay up in the balcony, when what I really wanted to do was dance on the dance floor, below. Missed the "dirty dancing" that was supposed to be going on in NJ because I was too old.

You have meant something to me. I have enjoyed revising memories, too. And I have enjoyed chatting with (and verbal sparring with) people all over the world. Never did I think I would be able to do that, so CHEER up. You are a very interesting person, and I want to stop worrying about you!

<edited to add irony. When my younger daughter wanted to learn to shag, I offered to teach her; but she said I didn't do it right. Seems the "Carolina Shag" was the thing. Never learned the difference. This is Beach Music and Shag Country, but Mr. C. absolutely cannot fast dance. At his 50th reunion at Duke, some quiet little guy at our table asked me to dance, and believe it or not we lasted through that G. Krupa number that gets faster and faster and faster. They actually cleared the dance floor, which took me back to my younger days when that happened regularly when a guy I went with could REALLY dance. Loved every minute of it; too bad he still had hang-ups with a NY model.

Party was great, even though the possible Triple Crown winner could not race and will never race again. Bright spot was that the owner of the winner was in a power wheelchair from an auto accident in 1982. (Maybe some day I'll tell you why that was so significant for me.)

Mr.C.fed the deer all our apples from the fridge, and we agreed we were very lucky when we passed the spot of our near accident.

Never offended by lit. (except Our Lady of the Flowers by Genet, which I had to read in grad. school and The Motorcycle). Was surprised your Genie took you in that direction, but it should be appreciated by many.

{more gentle hugs}

Mary,
Really liked this one! You are amazing...thank you for sharing. I'm just lurking, too tired for rhyming! I enjoy reading everything on here by everyone! Good job, all.

I agree with what you wrote, Jules. I don't have the time to sit and do rhymes very often, but I love reading everyone's contributions.

WHY GOD MADE TEACHERS"
When God created teachers,
He gave us special friends
To help us understand His world
And truly comprehend
The beauty and the wonder
Of everything we see,
And become a better person
With each discovery.
When God created teachers,
He gave us special guides
To show us ways in which to grow
So we can all decide
How to live and how to do
What's right instead of wrong,
To lead us so that we can lead
And learn how to be strong.
Why God created teachers,
In His wisdom and His grace,
Was to help us learn to make our world
A better, wiser place.
