Victor says:
I just heard that Sirius is moving its "Folk Village" channel exclusively to the internet. That's a polite way of saying they're cancelling their folk music radio channel.

This has me both very angry and very upset. Sirius cannot devote even one channel out of hundreds to folk music?

Well, I guess Amazon will be the winner here. I'll just have to buy a whole bunch of folk compilation CD's to listen to instead.

Folk never gets the respect it deserves, I grant you that. But suppose it suddenly became very popular! Personally, I can do without the fluff we think of in the popular gene. May I suggest you try looking at the album/CD 'Fast Folk"? One of my favorites !

Meanwhile, send Sirius a nasty E-mail, and let them know people care.

Lot's of luck!

Thats sad news guys, this should never be removed.

Any ways, if anyone of you interested in Himalayan folk music, I am from www.bedupako.com, a non profit organization promoting folk music from himalayan mountains and the state of Uttarakhand, India.

The team's strong desire to keep the flame of 'Uttarakhandi Folk' burning amongst the wildfire of modern day hip-hop, jazz, rock etc.; brings the initiative called Bedupako.Com™ to surface.

We are also the first global radio (not for profit) of Uttarakhand.

Please guys, do visit us and listen to songs and advice if any improvements can make our folk genome tank better. We bring singers from remote areas to help preserve the rare form of music, any information you want can be provided in details individually.

Best wishes

know EXACTLY what you mean! We used to get sirius free from direct tv then they abruptly dropped sirius and replaced it with something called sonictap----yuck! Folk music being such an integral part of our social conciousness in the 50's/60's you'd think it would get a little more respect! what the hell! still got my vinyl and cd collection----good luck in building your collection!
