You aren't really asking for a donation. Let's just say it. You are begging. Why haven't you written up a business plan, and then found an investor?
Or applied for a loan like everyone has to do for their personal business projects?

Donors from friends and business contacts are still investors, and I appreciate them. It is humbling to have a complete stranger want to back you for $75! That person believes in my project. And its really nice when old friends back me, too. Some of these friends are families with one income! Some are people I knew when I was 24!

There is a budget and production schedule posted on my website & the Kickstarter campaign:
http://www.gainfullvideo.com/hungry-for-health.html
and
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1147505189/hungry-for-health-health-food-television-pilot.

I don't know large angel type investors, nor how to approach them. Kickstarter.com and Indiegogo.com seemed like a great approach. And even then, the application process with the budget, production schedule, video creation & editing (had to learn the software), and writing the text took four months.

I'm asking for donations because I'd really like to make this show. It's important to me professionally and personally, because I have had 7 years of stomach issues, with mood and low energy problems. I saw four doctors over that time, and got little help. Now I have stable moods and better energy, too. Now I can digest wheat and dairy (homemade yogurt & sour cream) after being lactose intolerant. I hope that other people aren't getting the same poor help from doctors, but I think they are.

Turns out so much of stomach, mood and energy issues are related to how the food interacts with the good and bad bacteria in our bodies. **Probiotics - that's what the show is all about. This show is going to help other people feel better, and know what to eat to feel good!!

Grains, most beans, starches like thickeners, and white sugar in all its forms feed bad bacteria. This is a fact. This can cause them to release gases as they grow, and these gases poison us. Some of the gases are like tetanus, some produce a type of alcohol (acetaldehyde) that makes the person drunk. There are others. The gases are also painful in the digestive system.

An overgrowth of bad bacteria also causes holes in the digestive lining, which lets undigested food and toxins through, then into the blood stream. Undigested wheat in the blood stream becomes a type of morphine, called glutomorphine. Undigested dairy becomes casomorphine. As you can imagine, morphine makes us tired, sleepy, fuzzy thinking, unmotivated. So cutting foods that feed the bad bacteria becomes super important to long term clear thinking, happy moods, and good energy and motivation.

Leaky gut and bad bacteria overgrowth plays a part in over 20 diseases. That's important, right? The leaky gut lets toxins into the blood, then brain, which poisons us. Here's the list:
ADD, ADHD, IBS, IBD, epilepsy, autism, schizophrenia, dyspraxia (extreme balance issues), depression, dyslexia, and eating disorders (I couldn't believe this one! Dr. McBride talks about anorexia being a physical problem (toxins in the brain) that has to be treated before psychological treatment can be effective).

For more info on all this, please see this excellent book:
Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia

You can also hear Dr. McBride from the Wise Traditions 2012 conference. The lectures are on sale at WestonPrice.org, I believe. I know her book very well, and I was blown away from even the first section of her 6 hour lecture.

Perhaps you should read more about my project, and then see if its worth it, because I believe it is.

Thanks,

Diana Sproul

It would be if it was true. But we do not have evidence that "leaky gut syndrome" is responsible for most of the laundry list of disorders you cite, nor that morphine overdoses or "tetanus"-like symptoms result.

Instead of soliciting donations for a TV pilot based on your poor understanding of the subject, better to help raise money for digestive disease research by qualified scientists.

This "show" sounds more like an infomercial.

I read enough bad science in the pitch to realize that.

Anyone that lists foods that "feed bad bacteria" is a woo master.

I'm sorry, but there is evidence - lots of it. Please read the GAPS book mentioned in my last book, or read online about Gut and Psychology Syndrome & Dr. McBride, then we'll talk.

DS says:
Tetanus results from toxins released from bad bacteria, when they are fed grains, most beans, and sugar.

Morphines do result from leaky gut and the intake of dairy and wheat.

Andrew King says:
Rather than having us go out and buy books on the subject*, why not just summarize from online sources what research you thinks supports your claims?

It's easy enough to debunk them using such sources - for instance, tetanus is not caused by eating the "wrong" things. It's due to infection by an organism commonly found in soil and fecal matter, and routes of infection typically involve penetrating trauma, not nutritional choices.

*Dr. McBride has a reputation for embracing (and profiting from) quack notions about health. The following article describes some of her misconceptions (not surprisingly, there's a link to an interview she did with Joe Mercola, a patron saint of woo).

And C tetani (like most bacteria) are able to grow on just about any food stuff.
And once food is in the large intestine (when bacteria reside) it is broken down chemically, so it does not maek a difference if it was once a bean. It is now AAs, fiber and sugars.

The GAPS diet is based on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), described in Breaking the Viscious Cycle written by Elaine Gottschall. Her work is based on the work of a Dr. Haas. The SCD one is followed by the Defeat Autism Now group, I understand. It avoids double sugars in foods like beans, grains, and sugars. It is similar to the ketogenic diet, but I am not sure of the details of that one.
Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet

The GAPS diet takes the SCD diet that avoids double sugars, and adds probiotic foods, fats, egg yolks and bone broths.

Both Gottschall and McBride cured their children through diet theraphy. I really admire their work. Gottschall's child had seizures and was not growing well from 4-8 years, I understand. After one week on the SCD diet, the seizures had stopped. Dr McBride's son had either major developmental difficulties or autism.

I will agree that McBride is interested in marketing her book, and licensing specialists. It is a pushing of her info & brand. However, I am thankful that it was available to me and others who needed help, but didn't get it through their own doctors. We need a plan -

Here's the web link for GAPS. There are numerous bloggers talking about how it has helped them, and many support groups.

You can hear her at Wise Traditions 2012 for 6 hours by buying this CD:

I read the article that you linked to. The writer is knocking Dr. McBride without reading her book at all. On one of the videos of her, and in her book, she talks about kids getting vaccines while they are mildly sick with something else, and how this is a danger. It could be a virus or fungus (I am trying to remember what she said on her video, which is online.) And it is a fact that kids aren't blood tested to see if everything is OK before they are given vaccines.

It is a fact that the MMR vaccine is found in the digestive system of autistic kids. It is there because most of our immunity is there. The problem is that these kids have low immunity and leaky gut already, or have an existing cold, fungus, virus. They get a vaccine that is dead (yes), BUT these vaccines have metals in them to make the body react to the injection. Up until recently, these included mercury. And I believe there were other metals in them, too. For more, see this book under vaccines:

Revolutionizing Your Health: The Natural Way to Health and Wellness Through Diet, Nutrition, Prevention and Natural Cures (An Owner's Manual for Your Body)
(It's at least worth thinking about - Not sure I agree with everything he says)

And yes, McBride talks about a widespread problem of low probiotics due to 4 generations of antibiotics use, lack of breastfeeding (baby is seeded then), & cesarian section (baby seeded as they go through birth canal). Moms might not have enough good flora to give to babies.

But back to my project -
Hope people will consider funding it. The bacteria - good and bad - in our bodies are fascinating!

The GAPS and SCD diets are followed by many people, including Defeat Autism Now. They have helped many people. LIke it or not, our internal flora can help or hurt us.

As for being an informercial, it will NOT. I plan on selling the video or marketing it to PBS, but not selling supplements. I know now that making your own probiotic rich foods is cheap and pretty easy.

Besides bloggers with anecdotes, a youtube video and repetition of long-debunked antivaccine nonsense, can you point to any published research that supports your claim that "leaky gut syndrome" is responsible for a slew of unrelated disorders?

*citing the Weston Price Foundation does not help matters, as this organization is well known for promoting health quackery, including bizarre assaults on soy-based foods, water fluoridation etc.

Besides Andrew, haven't we learned form other threads that all disease is caused by emotional stress!!??
