Any one have experience with Feng Shui? Is it for real or just a superstition like astrogaly.?
Does how you place your furniture etc. really have an effect on how you feel?

Bit of both.... Yes it's superstition, you're not going to win the lottery because you placed a money plant in your money sector, however decluttering and placing your furniture in an arrangement that is more open and relaxing will have an effect on how you feel.

Clear as mud?

hi, thats funny...I never buy lottery tickets so I have no chance of winning. I also dont do the horoscope thing, but when I read an article about how Feng Shui could help balance the energy in your home I was interested in the process. Anything that can calm your mind and body is helpful to your overall health. I am one day away from decluttering my place ( every day) I think I will find a good book on it and try it.
Thanks for the input. It was clear to me.

Bingo two - Decluttering is an excellent first step. Clutter is "visual noise". If you want inspiration on decluttering there is a short book that talks about the psychology and energetics of clutter and decluttering It is "Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui" by Karen Kingston - be sure to get the one by Karen Kingston, there is a similarly titled book be another author.

My original post was deleted because it contained the actual name of Penn and Teller's show on HBO, even with four hyphens.

They invited two feng shui interior designers to do their stuff in the same room. The results were completely different. R and T concluded that feng shui matched the name of the show.

Thank you Brit Lit, I never know which book is worth buying. It is helpful to get advise from someone with first hand knowledge.

to Mark Allen, Are you saying it's all a hoax.? It sure has survived the centuries if it is. LOL. I guess the only way to know is to try it.

Lots of hoaxes have survived the centuries, look at homeopathy, faith healing, acupuncture.

Acupuncture isn't TOTAL nonsense, my grandmother poked the area below the nail and above the joint when I had a terrible headache and it worked, and it didn't work because I'd believe it would work because personally I thought it was nonsense.

Yes. And I am a firm believer. I worked with a life coach of sorts who was also a Feng Shui consultant. I'd been single for years and years...and had alot of stuff. Items carry energy...'cleaning out' and deep decluttering was huge. Letting go and creating space HUGE.

One story I still had many items that were gifts from my first marriage. (in retrospect if I'd had a garage sale, rather than goodwill I'd have made some cash!)...I also had a print of Gustav Klimpt's The Kiss on my bedroom wall. My ex and I used to say it was 'us' as we resembled the couple in the picture. It was a process, but I went through and got rid of all wedding gifts, and that was it the 'energy' action of letting go, or the items? Either way, the week after all that stuff left the curb, I started dating for the first time in many years, got a phone call from a friend about a set up...and within the year met my now husband.

Around that time I also looked at a rental property. I noticed that there was a corner 'cut out' of the structure, in the PROSPERITY corner of the house. when I went outside not only that but an animal had dug a hole there, making it even worse. I asked what happened to the previous renters, I was told they had to leave, they lost their job. I also lived in a 'bad luck' house...and now that I look back, the flow there was horrible.

Donald Trump even uses it when designing and redoing his buildings.

BTW Mark Allen, homeopathy is real medicine, and even the FDA has documented acupuncture works. If you've not experienced it, give it a try next time you have a malady.

As for the Penn and Teller 2 different designs from 2 different consultants, they could both be correct.

It's not an exact science, it's about energy and flow...also what do you want to focus on? If you really study Feng Shui, it encompasses the 5 element theory (and NO you don't have to get that complicated to utilize and add basic balance) say I am a high strung person with lots of 'fire' in my personality...good Feng Shui for ME personally would be cooling, balancing, more water...but if I was depressed, or low energy, I might need more 'fire' to balance me out...what areas need enhancement?

Yin and Yang...the yin being more feminine, cooling, nurturing...the yang, masculine, hot, active...are you too yin? Then you need more yan in your environment. Too yan? Can't sleep at night? Keep your bedroom very yin...

I might be more concerned with my love life than money, so I may want to put more emphasis on that area of my house...or my kids might by having a hard time, so I might want to enhance my family and children areas...both the desert and a tropical paradise have doesn't have to be wrong, for the other to be right? Think shades for gray, not black and white.

Go to 3 doctors and tell me you don't get 3 different opinions?

Hi Hot hands, Thank you. You said what I was trying to find the words to say but stuck. I love your posts. I am now going to try it. I have ordered a library book.
to mark: what do You have to lose? You sound as if you are the kind that has to have proof. so get a library book and try it yourself then you can really report on it from first hand information. L
