There have been murmurs in the press and medical literature, that innovative drugs aren't getting pushed thru to manufacturing. Big Pharma and the FDA are pointing at each other, but the real answer is probably more complex. Here's one idea:

PFIZER SAYS EUROPE IS UNDERMINING DRUG INNOVATION
"Europe is undermining drug innovation by cutting prices, raising barriers to new medicines and freeloading off others in Asia and the U.S. who are more willing to pay, according to Pfizer."

If you want to be thoroughly impressed with a plethora of technological, medical, theoretical, spiritual and psychological advancements, some way most way ahead of it's time, check out TED; Technology, Entertainment, and Design is what it stands for. Most Smart phones have it as an app and is where I found it. The title itself does not do this conferences' justice. It covers so much more than the what the acronym explains. Use the search bar and do a search on Medical and you'll be very impressed with the many videos of the different speakers on the subject. http://www.ted.com/talks Have fun and be amazed.

Coconut -

This issue has started more discussions in this forum than any other issue, I believe. Please try finding one of those discussions, since it really doesn't relate to anything in this thread.

FEDS SEIZE CONTAMINATED MEDICAL IMAGING GEL
"Federal law enforcement officials have seized several lots of ultrasound gel from a New Jersey company after the product tested positive for two strains of dangerous bacteria."

Add this story to the mismatched cancer cell lines for cancer research (my last post), and I do start wondering what's really going on. Is there a total lack of quality control or oversight at these labs/companies? Or is there something more sinister at work?

HOW TO MAKE YOUR HEART HEAL ITSELF
"A few small molecules that control gene expression can repair the scar tissue in a mouse's damaged heart. The technique could translate into human therapy for heart attack patients and others. Researchers from Duke University Medical Center used molecular control switches known as microRNAs to induce cells in scar tissue to change roles and turn into myocytes, the heart muscle cells that beat."

'UNIVERSAL' CANCER VACCINE DEVELOPED
"The therapy, which targets a molecule found in 90% of all cancers, could provide a universal injection that allows patients' immune systems to fight off common cancers, including breast and prostrate."

It is considered a Therapeutic Vaccine designed to be given to patients who are already suffering from cancer to help their bodies fight off the disease, rather than to prevent cancer in the first place. Still in trials, the vaccine could be available in 5 years.
