Revue says:
Yeah, a lot of artists I like are on that list. However it does make sense, and it's also a dam shame. I still can't get over the fact they said they won't play Little Brother because it's "too intelligent". It's right up there with people saying they won't listen to certain artists because they are "too deep". I haven't checked BET like that since 2000, and that's when they fell off hard. Eff BET, and Viacom.

A customer says:
Isn't saying that Little brother is "too intelligent" for their audience just an alternate way of saying that their audience is too stupid for Little Brother? It would seem that this pendulum swings both ways.

I'm going to post another link on here, I was telling people when I first got on this forum that my good friend worked for Bet as the Executive editor of music from sept 08- sept 09....... This is his parting letter from BET, they promised him 40 acres and mule and got neither ! http://shawnpwilliams.com/2009/09/08/betcom-executive-editor-andreas-hale-calls-it-quits/ He was the one that got little brother to be played on BET and they only did it once and that is when BET told them that they are to intelligent for our audience........... This is another reason why I'm not down with mainstream, they don't play 97 percent of the artists that I like and they are trying to dumb down the culture that I've been apart of my whole life........ Viacom is a mutha !!!!!!!!! BET, MTV & VH1....

Damn, for a minute I thought I was looking at my iTunes, seeing all those artists names together. This is the reason I stopped watching Rap City and actually BET altogether back around 2000 or 2001. I could already feel the "dumbing down" effect kicking in back then.

I totally agree with this point, its not even swinging both ways. when i tell someone about an artiste who goes deep, they always say, those people are too intelligent for the masses, i disagree, the masses are getting retarded by the minute thanks to what the media is doing, what these rappers are saying are not that cryptic lets be honest. and cmon, Nate dogg? Lil Cease? Buckshot? Da Brat? these people are on the list? i mean we are not yet over to Canibus, GZA, Killah Priest and em. smh.

And wait, this was 2005? damn. Thats crazy, ok, they're telling me they cant even devote 1hr/day or some segment where they play these emcees? their "preferred" audience watch BET 24/7? this is terrible.

So...basically they are banning people for lack of relevance? And they wonder why they constantly get ridiculed.
Honestly, this is the way I see it: Centric>>>>>BET any day of the week (I know they are sister stations, but still...).

D-Train says:
Bob Johnson leaves BET and sales to Viacom and Viacom turns the station into ring tone rappers, same as BET and VH1.... They want more ignorance on the radio and TV to make our music look stupid and unintelligent.....On the flip side you could put Oddisee on inplace of Waka flaka on BET VH1 and MTV and the kids would follow because it's on tv so it must be good....
It really goes to show that they no what they are doing to this culture.......... Rick Ross and Flame will never define what our culture is just because they are the face of the music.......It's sad to say the least, the average person over 45 thinks rap isn't music anyway so do you blame them at this point ?????
