Did you need a translation? "Hola" means "Hi". Not "Go to Hell". It is friendly, which is more than I can say for you. Possibly the store was trying to make local Hispanics feel welcome and figured that the gringos could figure out that little bit of Spanish, what with the popularity of Taco Bell and Chi-Chi's and the occasional Latino comedian or singer who might put a phrase out there. American English has absorbed lots of words this way. You can look it up.

Lientje says:
Ostrova: My point is that I do not need to say Happy Holidays at Christmas time because some
grinch might be offended.
