IGS- You have a point. Still, I'd like to think that each case would be reviewed- one must recognize that innocent people have be given the death penalty. Why have the option of clemency if it is not to be taken seriously?
Your second point, concerning the examination of presidents, is well made. It seems difficult for people (myself included) to make an unbiased remark about our most recent presidents. Even if the remarks are unbiased, they seem to be too inflammatory for a scholarly discussion. I'd put the timeline at about 40 years, but this is your discussion, so set the rules as you see fit.
