I was looking for a list of software that requires an ilok so i can avoid those companies. Anyone else feel this way?

Also, let me know what software you have had to abandon because of this horrible system that punishes those who want to pay for thier products.

haha. My ilok is great. GONE are the days of having to worry about de-activating and re-activating software on different computer (and having to call customer service to retrieve liscences off of computers that you have reformatted). Now I can just keep ALL programs installed on any computer and switch my ilok between them so, uhh... not with you on this one.

Agreed... Ilok ROCKS! I can have Pro Tools installed on my laptop for mobile recording, and on my studio pc for more power, and I only have to switch the USB key to use either one. Instead of having to buy two copies!! Sorry bro, I'm not with you on this one either.

I'm definitely with you on this one. I hate the iLok and having to use a USB port for this bulky and ugly dongle. Christ, this is 2011. Create user accounts for online verification and allow for a number of authorized computers just like everyone else.

Sorry no... iLok is by far the easiest way to manage your software licenses. It's superior if you have to reformat your machine, upgrade to a new one or just use your plug-ins on another machine. All of the plug-ins that I own and don't use iLok are a pain in the ass to get authorized - sometimes there are even system/server errors and I can't get them authorized for more than 24 hours... meanwhile with all of my iLok plug-ins they are ready to go as soon as I install them. Tell me which is easier... install the plug-in, have to open your DAW, open the plug-in and get a challenge code, etc. and having to go to a website, put that code in and get a response/auth code to put into the plug-in so you can use it - OR - install the plug-in, make sure your iLok is plugged in and open your DAW and it is ready to roll? Rhetorical question...

Ugly? Bulky? Really? Who cares what it looks like? "Just like everyone else"? You do realize the overwhelming majority of MAJOR plug-in developers use iLok as their software protection, right? So awful it takes up a precious USB port too.. good thing most computers these days have on average 4 USB ports. iLok haters come and go all the time, but at the end of the day iLok is, again, by far the easiest solution to license management for the end user. If you disagree then you simply DO NOT have enough experience to understand why you are wrong.

I am SOOO with you. iLok is the most abusively customer-unfriendly company to deal with. I love what Waves has done, essentially freezing them out. If you have a damaged iLok without ZDT, you are in for a shock. iLok will just ream you every way possible and there is no one you can contact about it. No one. I have not experienced such a complete lack of interest from any software company for at least a decade.

Waves support is the antithesis of this corporate, FU policy; there is always someone there to listen to your specific issue and who will promptly reply with knowledgable advice. I am not a hater by nature, but iLok can just go straight to hell. I will actively support any software company that circumvents the iLok cartel.
