Perhaps my post asking if anyone wanted to discuss "The Hell Candidate" was too limited. Anyone interested in discussing, critiquing, and making recommendations re: Graham Masterton's novels and stories?

Graham Is The best!!! See if you can get your hands on "Eric The Pie". Probably the most controversial story he ever wrote. it actually cost the demise of the horror magazine that first published it.......crazy stuff man!!...see for yourself.....

Actually, go to his website in the FICTION section you can find a bunch of short stories by him. They added ERIC THE PIE.....extremely shocking!!. Also, registering on the MESSAGE BOARD section of the site is very easy. I've been able to exchange a few words with Mr Masterton himself over the past 2 weeks....if you have a question just ask him and he will answer you back...

I agree the HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT wasnt his best but it was still pretty good. if you enjoyed PREY, you should try WALKERS. Its very similar to PREY....(the main character his with his son in another weird house).....WALKERS is another "Haunted House" Story like in THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT but It is a lot better.....

Really? A story of his caused the demise of a magazine? What a legacy!

I saw "The Manitou" film. It was goofy, but Tony Curtis was the perfect Harry Erskine. Kind of annoying that they moved it from NY to San Francisco.

I have been reading a LOT of his novels lately. Even though I don't love every single one of them, I've gotten addicted because they are always fun. These are the ones I've read so far:

The Hell Candidate
Basilisk
House of Bones
The House that Jack Built
The Manitou
Revenge of the Manitou
Burial
Spirit-Jump (short story)
Manitou Blood
Blind Panic
The Djinn
The Sphinx
The 5th Witch
Prey
Chaos Theory
Famine
Tengu
Spirit
The Sweetman Curve
Picture of Evil [reading now - halfway through]

Kinda get the feeling this wont be a very long discussion.....Anyway, iam a huge horror fan, i live just for that stuff. I guess i could say that GM is really the best in terms of writing horror, its just sad no ones knows him...Check my review for THE NIGHT WARRIORS. My best suggestions for Graham's books are in there....he is truly the best....by far!

Also, searching for his books may be a bit complicated, Here's a tip.., If there is something you cant find on http://Amazon.com (US) Just use there other platforms : http://amazon.ca (canada) - http://amazon.co.uk (united kingdom) - http://amazon.it (italy (perfect for italian horror)) - http://amazon.fr (france). I've alway been able to find my stuff there.....have fun searching....

I think the best way to get his books is through interlibrary loans and www.half.com. (Sorry, amazon.) You save money that way.

You are right. This probably won't be a long discussion. I'd like to find more Masterton fans.

I haven't read any of his sex books. I do a lot of my reading on the train. Not sure I want one of those sitting on my lap on my commute.

Those sex scenes in "Prey" were certainly interesting, but, I must say, there was one in "Chaos Theory" that was especially unique because the position described is, I should think, impossible. I'd have to see it to believe it.

Yes, half.com is awesome. It's not like you are going to put these books on display anyway, so why not read them used for $0.75 plus shipping and handling? (How long before amazon shuts this discussion down?)

I've read a lot of Graham, just not lately and I don't remember much about them.
What I have read recently is: Descendant and I was not that impressed.

he,he...they can shut it down now if they want but as far as im concerned, its too late!! LOL

I dont think i've read chaos theory, ill get it on that website....just read the plot for it.......sounds interesting.....

I for got to add to my essential recommendations for graham the books CHARNEL HOUSE and THE DEVIL OF D-DAY. They are both awesome!!

havent read Descendant yet, im tryin to find a cheap copy but i guess i know where to look now!.....i know he said it was his first "Vampire story". i found is later work a bit ordinary compared too the older books, charlene, maybe except for HOLY TERROR. You should give a try to the older ones.....You wont be disapointed....

I haven't read "Descendant", but I did read "Manitou Blood", which involves vampirism. MB was fantastic for 3/4 of it, and then I didn't like the way the plot went, but I cover this in my review under that title.

Masterton is one of my favorite authors.
MIRROR, PREY, CHARNEL HOUSE....

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 15, 2012 9:26:53 AM PST
KinksRock says:
Of those three, I've only read "Prey". He's got so many damn books, it's incredible how you can find another fan, but he/she has not necessarily read any of the same books as you.

Your right kinks,.... Too many books but they are all worth it, even when you go from a horror novel to one of his political novel, he always have very interesting characters and great ideas...

I dont know where you are right now in (Picture of Evil) but you`ll probably agree it was brilliant. What would you do if we offered you to stay young forever by having a portrait of yourself.....And what do you think about the grays?? Sick family hein....... it was just brilliant! I`ve also just noticed i recommended FAMILY PORTRAIT for you to read but just realise this is exactly what you are reading right now (picture of evil). Masterton have lot`s of books that have been re-edited under different name.......Gotta be careful......

I didn't think I was going to like "Picture of Evil", but it has steadily gotten me more and more interesting. The Grays are sickos. (When you read "The Picture of Dorian Gray", Oscar Wilde is pretty vague about what exactly Dorian is doing that is so decadent; I always thought it was a reference to homosexual activities.)

KinksRock says:
Come to think about it . . . The Grays are as depraved as the family in the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". They just have better manners.
