Ordered up the Verve set by Stan Getz. "East of the Sun".

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 21, 2012 9:33:12 AM PDT
Robert,

The "East of the Sun" set by Getz is outstanding. It contains his justifiably famous "Shine" solo and has fine playing by Conte Candoli as well. Enjoy.

"Seranata" by John Young on Delmark.
"Travelling in Time" by Alexander Vinnitsky.
"Romantics of Jazz" by Alexander Vinnitsky and Oleg Kireev.
The Russian stuff isn't easy to find. I had to shop in the Ukraine to get it but it will be worth the effort if it arrives!

Cambell,
Let us know about your experience with the Russian jazz.. I have not idea at all!

Ahmad,
Despite jazz being "discouraged" for long periods during the Soviet era, there has always been a group of dedicated jazz musicians in Russia. Many though left and several now live in the US, for instance the trumpet player, Valery Ponomarev who joined the Jazz Messengers and who now lives in New York where he leads a small group and big band.
Vinnitsky is a very nice, veteran guitar player. There are some YouTube clips of him if you want to get a flavour of his work.

Inspired by WH's thread "Best Jazz Releases in 2012", I placed this small order:

1- Andy Sheppard- Trio Libero
2- Kenny Garrett - Seeds From the Underground. I don't own any Garrett; read some reviews and decided to get this older album.
3- Tord Gustavsen- The Well
4- Ravi Coltrane- In Flux (other members posted negative comments about Ravi's album recommended on the Best in 2012 twelve, so I opted for this earlier album of his).

Ali Haluk says:
ahmad, cool selection but "in flux" is an old album, yet it's much better than r. coltrane's 2012 release, Spirit Fiction imho...

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 29, 2012 2:09:55 PM PST
Ahmad says:
Yes, Ali; you are right. I compared reviews of the two albums, and decided to get the Flux. Thank you for the good news!

Last order for this year, honest!

Only now, at the tender age of 45, that I am starting to develop a taste for Frank Sinatra's voice/style.

2- Hubert Laws- In The Beginning (CTI Records 40th Anniversary Edition)

3- Joe Farrell- Moon Germs
