Yes, I heard bits of "Boom Bap" and thought it worth a try, especially since only 3 of this guy's albums can be attained here on amazon without shelling much cash. I was listening to "Cacophony" yesterday and was inspired to check out some more.

Off thread (only because the "Newly Acquired Jazz" thread keeps slipping away): Yesterday I picked up a bunch of CDs at a buck a piece in local used book/record stores. Be mindful, these things are being dumped and won't be around much longer. At this time, you can get most anything for just a couple of dollars. I picked up: (1) a compilation called "CTI Masters of the Saxophone" which contains mostly tracks that I already have, but there were a couple of Hank Crawford tracks I didn't have; (2) Tito Puente on concord called "Goza Mi Timbal"; (3) a Black Uhuru compilation, again, most tracks I had but there was a rare one off for Joe Gibbs from the 70's that I didn't have and 2 alternate mixes from "Anthem"; (4) a Peter Tosh comp for the car; (5) George Duke's "Muir Woods Suite"; (6) Joe Zawinul's "My People" from '96; (7) Reuben Wilson's "Blue Mode" from '69 on blue note; and (8) "Greetings from Skamania" by the Skatalites from '96, with guest spots by Steve Turre. Plus, some other things, such as a JetStar compilation called "Reggae's Perfect Combinations Vol. 1," with tracks from all kinds of people like Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Ninjaman, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, etc.

Brian,

"I use the ignore feature because I do not want to be an enabler nor do I want to cause additional harm to an already damaged individual."

Amen! Couldnt agree more. As someone who has this individual on ignore myself....all i can see now is the reactions 2 the posts....and while I undastand them completely, I do. They do continually give oxygen 2 this posters need 4 attention.

There's nothing anyone can do, cos the person is so far in denial, other than 2 hit 'ignore'. If we ALL used the ignore feature....then the problem no longer gets the attention it craves.

And, albeit, in the long run, refusing to respond 2 this acting out is a way more effective way of it not reocurring. And the hope is they transfer their drama in anotha environment...one where they can get the professional help they need.

Its like The Springer Show.....funny, fascinating at first. Then it dawns on u that these people dont need publicity....they need help.

Ignore is one option, but if the response does not add to the discussion at hand, I see nothing wrong with answering the question with a "NO". All it takes for a comment to be deleted is 6/7 "NO's. When I first stopped by the Jazz Forum it was during the heyday of this persons postings and I remember thinking how creepy the forum was. Quite dropping by for awhile hoping the seas would calm down...they did for awhile until this poster started back up with different names.Same ol' trash talk.
Using the "NO" button is just like casting a vote during an election.

This excerpt form Jerry's review of Aebersold Play-A-Long Series books just still really cracks me up. How a self professed Phd can create such a word salad sentence and post it is priceless:

"Today I am one of the best jazz guitarists in the U.S. & all over the world."

Ha, ha, ha , ha, ho, ho, ho, hee, hee, hee, LMAO..........

Edit: Wait a minute! I thought JJ was a Canadian. How come he is not "one of the best jazz guitarists in Canada & all over the world." Not proud of your country of origin there JJ?

I don't actually recall helping anyone here, unless they found my comment about a choice between pity and derision helpful. I would say it is time to move on.

From the Jerlaw "JJ" book review of:

Stan Getz: A Life in Jazz
by Donald L. Maggin

But his days with heroin were to plague him again. "I know this from experience."

Looks like JJ's story is that he used to "shoot up" with Stan Getz. It just gets curiouser and curiouser.

Also I know I am pushing this but anybody notice how many books and cd's our JJ has reviewed during the month of May? I started counting but got bored. There are at least 10 books and 20 albums in there. What an amazing guy ;~)...

OK, I'll bite.

7 Black Butterflies by Drew Gress (as so many people keep mentioning this album, and I like the look of the line-up).
Cherry Thing by the Thing & Neneh Cherry. Not out for a while, looking forwards to hearing it (I'm a big fan of the Thing).
Tarkovsky Quartet & Nostalghia: Song for Tarkovsky (Slip) by François Couturier. I fairly recently watched almost all of Tarkovsky's films (Andrei Tarkovsky Collection - 7-DVD Box Set ( Ivanovo detstvo / Andrey Rublyov (Strasti po Andreyu) / Solyaris / Zerkalo (Sarke) / Stalker / Nostalghia (Nostalghiya) / Offret (Le s [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - United Kingdom] - but I think there is another box set that is cheaper in the USA) and loved them. Thought I'd give these a go as I like the music in the films a lot.
Guest House by Myra Melford. Thanks to whoever mentioned that she has a new one out (possibly Jeffery).
Prayer For Peace by Billy Bang.
Templars-In Sacred Blood & Nosferatu by John Zorn. I have been picking up all of John Zorn's new releases for quite a while.

And then there's an order from Clean Feed to come as well:

Evil Things by TGB - Alexandre Frazão (d), Mário Delgado (g), Sérgio Carolino (tb)
Sfumato by Vinny Golia Quartet - Alex Cline (d), Bobby Bradford (t), Ken Filiano (b), Vinny Golia (sax)
Fiction Avalanche by RIDD Quartet - Jeff Davis (d), Jon Irabagon (sax), Kris Davis (p), Reuben Radding (b)
Three by SKM - Kris Davis (p), Michael Bisio (b), Stephen Gauci (ts)
Tamarindo by Tony Malaby's Tamarindo - Nasheet Waits (d), Tony Malaby (ts), William Parker (b)
Paradoxical Frog by Kris Davis / Ingrid Laubrock / Tyshawn Sorey - Ingrid Laubrock (ts), Kris Davis (p), Tyshawn Sorey (d)
Voladores by Tony Malaby's Apparitions - Drew Gress (b), John Hollenbeck (perc), Tom Rainey (d), Tony Malaby (ts)
Aeriol Piano by Kris Davis - Kris Davis (p)

Yim,

re:Guest House by Myra Melford.

I'm a big Myra Melford fan but I haven't heard this one. Let me know how it goes for you.

PS: On Order-

Medeski ,Martin and Wood - TONIC Tonic The idea of these guys jamming at Tonic on all acoustic instruments put me over the edge with this. UTI brought it up recently.

2 Terry Gilliam dvds - TIDELAND Tideland (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) and THE BROTHERS GRIMMThe Brothers Grimm came this week.

Another one I'm waiting on is Howard Roberts - Antelope Freeway / Equinox Express Elevator (Impulse 2-on-1) Was inspired to get this after hearing a Jack Sheldon album that features Howard Roberts - LIVE AT DON MUPO's GOLD NUGGET that I heard courtesy of Thomas Sorensen and listening to the samples. One of those great Impulse Two-fers.
