Cirque Du Freak (12 books) series by Darren Shan and also his latest series The Demonata are some of my favorites. They're a bit on the darker side :-)

My daughter who is 11 loves Adventures of the Pillowcase Puppy, by author Michelle Lee. A total of five book series will be release the second one due out next summer. This is a real classic.

Try Raymond Feist (Shadow of a Dark Queen). Or the Ender books by Orson Scott Card.

Try "Sherman Oak and the Magic Potato", or "The Santa Mysteries."
