From what I can tell, it isn't really much of an issue to worry about.
This article sheds some light on the general topic: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/11/21/mobile_security_dust_up/

There are "rogue apps" that have been an issue on the Android Market in the past but as far as I can tell they primarily were designed to make surreptitious charges to your phone's billing account. Seeing how the Kindle Fire isn't a phone, it can't call anything to do this.

Great at what, exactly? Has it actually protected you from anything?

Has anyone ever gotten a virus on the Fire? If so, what did you use to get rid of it? My daughter said that a few days ago she got a message on the Kindle that it has 3 viruses on it. I haven't seen any evidence to that effect. How does one find out if this is indeed true? Any ideas would be most appreciated.

How did she get this message? Via an email? If so, who was it from? Sounds bogus to me. All of the new and inexperienced Kindle Fire users is basically a vast ocean of opportunity for phishing.

I just restored my Kindle Fire to factory settings because I believe I had a virus. I had that Dr. Web antivirus and it said the Fire was free of viruses. Yet, when I opened the web browser and just let it sit for a second, a video would start playing entertainment news. From a website I never heard of and can't recall right now. This morning when I tried to go on the web, it said my parental settings would not allow me to use the web.

I've had a Kindle Fire HD since April of this year. I went to http://www.komando.com and searched for security apps for the Kindle Fire HD on her site then downloaded that app from Amazon. Incidentally, I chose Lookout Mobile Security for my device.
