Irish reader says:
Well....

(1) You waged an economic war against the Russians - which you won.
(2) My father - a decent old Irish liberal - says with the benefit of hindsight, Vietnam, Korea et al probably were necessary. All of Asia would have been a Communist bloc otherwise and even bigger threat to American supremacy than it is now.
(3) China is essentially run along capitalist lines these days. And one hand washes the other.
(4) Like it or not, America is a big player on the world stage. That means doing a lot of stuff that's morally questionable..it comes with the territory.

The great thing about being the citizen of a small powerless nation is we never have to worry about that stuff.

This topic belongs in the Political/Politics forum. Or even the History forum. Not here in the KBF.
Please do us all a favor & take your "Anti-America" rant to somewhere that's more appropriate.

Old Rocker says:
He's trolling. I suggest everyone report it as abuse and ask for it to be transfered to Politics. He posts this drivel over here so he can be the focus of attention, which he can't get in the politics forum as there are so many just like him.

I'd rather read about your 'small, powerless nation' and how you're inspiring your fellow denizens to better themselves and contribute to the world. There are already books on pointing fingers at America. Surprise yourself and write something amazing - something that can ignite a passion, that can lead others to their potential. Anyone can pass the buck, denegrat others; Children do it a lot. Be more than a finger-pointer, B.

Irish reader says:
I wasn't finger-pointing - rather I was defending America (as a neutral outsider) from some of B's criticisms.

Like I said, being a large country makes involvement in international affairs (and the morally murky repercussions which arise from them) a fact of life.

@B: What makes me proud to be an American? The fact that we spend billions of dollars in countries (3rd world) that would like to blow us to oblivion; despite this, we still try to drag them out of the shitty circumstances they are in.

The fact that we have proud soldiers that will give their lives to support this country and it's (sometimes foolish) missions against regimes that would LOVE to see us obliterated. The fact that our stellar soldiers KNOW they are going into situations where they will probably die, but still go forth.

The fact that young soldiers in this country gave their all against a Motherland (England) that wanted to control every aspect of our being.

I get what you are suggesting B. We have wronged people. Truly we have. We have also helped shape the outcome of WWI and WW2. We have also helped (financially) many nations that were and are still struggling.

Sadly, in order to STAY a world power, we cannot assist every single country who is struggling. We also have some past sins (the internment camps, etc.).

Right now, the military is being down-sized. Yep, we have been there done that. When the next chaotic event occurs, we will (as usual) desperately try and refurb the military complex and let in every single person, regardless of appropriateness.

Oy vay, I just went off on a rant. It wasn't my intent. I think the US has some old school sins that were never addressed, but we have also done a heck of a lot of good.

ETA: letters.
