This is a link to the thread of the same name in MOA. If you click on it you will get some great advice on how to navigate the treacherous waters of the Amazon forums.

If you are a new author, please, please read it before self promoting outside of MOA. If you've already self promoted your work outside of MOA, please, please delete your post and click on this link.

I'm afraid ALL authors are just too STUPID to get it!

They aren't all delusional. Some are quite pleasant folk--you can take them out in public and everything.

G. says:
Have you seen all of the down-voting on MOA? Either the MOA does not want to encourage good relations between authors and readers, OR, the troll squad and it's numerous shills have invaded it. What a sad thing. I don't think that site is worthy of much effort anymore. The helpful posts are down-voted and the SPAM seems to be admired. Great effort on Twinny's part, but the effort would probably be better served as a sticky on the KBF. The MOA is BEYOND repair. Let the trolls and spam-inators have it; the few interesting posts on that forum are few and far between.

The few reader friendly posts over there have been taken over by the axis of evil. Meh, let them have it...it is a graveyard of self-promotion of their own making. Make a post that would draw in READERS? Shudder...that is almost sacrilegious, because why would you EVER want to draw readers to the MOA forum? SMH?

I think it shows who really cares about authors and who doesn't. We have been accused of hating all indie/self-pubbed authors and yet, when we try to help new authors get started and avoid trashing their reputations by self promoting outside of MOA, what happens? We get down voted and the threads get trashed.

Actions speak loudly. Everyone will be able to tell who the real trouble makers are, down votes or not.

Not all authors. But certainly some.

That may be true Iola, but let's hope most aren't :)

Amazing what happens when you take a day off.

Anyway, bumping this as I think it's a good idea to have a version in the Kindle Book Forum.

Would love for Amazon to make something like this sticky as I think putting something like the title of this thread might attract more eyeballs than a generic "Attention: read this first" notice.

I just hope people use it.

I have no issue with a first timer making honest mistakes. Considering my own first few months of blundering through things, it would be hypocritical of me not to. :)

It's the ones who purposely work to game the system, sabotage others, etc etc that I have no use for...and for which a topic like this will fall on blind eyes (except to try and disrupt it, which I hope won't happen).

Since it's hurricane season, "hunker down" might even be appropriate.
