On my way in to work this morning, "American Girl" by Tom Petty came on. In my mind I was immediately transported to The Silence of the Lambs scene, where Jame Gumb abducted the senator's daughter. Every time I hear this song, I'm seeing that movie scene in my head.

What about you all? Are there certain songs that put you into a movie or scene as soon as you hear them?

I thought of another one. Stuck in the Middle with You by Steeler's Wheel.
There is a particularly nasty scene in Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" that plays out to this song. Every time I hear it, I'm there.

Whenever I hear one of my favorite songs... "Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult, I always think of the movie "The Frighteners" with Michael J. Fox. This song played at the end of the movie.

Another one from "Reservoir Dogs" that always works for me is "Little Green Bag" - the iconic scene of the "dogs" walking down the street ...

A haunting soundtrack for me is from We Were Soldiers:We Were Soldiers (Score). The West Point Glee club rendition of Stand Ye Steady: Songs of Courage & Inspiration (Mansions of the Lord), brings huge tears to my eyes every darned time I hear it. We Were Brothers was a heartbreaking movie, but the soundtrack was much more poignant to me.

ETA: spell check.

Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll" in the movie Risky Business. Who doesn't picture a young Tom Cruise dancing in his underwear whenever you hear that song?

I was dreading that someone would bring up that one ;)

Oh, I'll bet "Old Rocker" has danced in his unmentionables a time or two. ; )

I could change my name to Old "Commando" Rocker.

Lol
You'll catch yourself a chill dancing like that.

Favorite movie/TV themes that put me in the mood for action, adventure, comedy, mystery, reminiscing, and/or romance.

1. The James Bond opening (or closing, with the Daniel Craig era) gunbarrel theme
2. The theme from "Star Trek" (The Old Series)
3. The tango theme from "Last Tango In Paris"
4. The original "Charlie's Angels" theme (1970s-80)
5. The theme from "Midnight Caller"
6. The Columbo theme (actually, the NBC Sunday Mystery Movie theme)
7. The theme from "Sanford and Son"
8. "Star Wars" theme (1970s)
9. "Superman" theme (1970s)
10. "Chinatown" theme

Honorable mentions: "Welcome Back" (Welcome Back, Kotter); "Love is All Around" (Mary Tyler Moore Show); and the theme from "Spenser: For Hire".

Your apologies for what, Mattew?

James, good calls all! Most esxpecially for me the Star Trek theme, the Star Wars theme, Sanford and Son and Superman. AWESOME!

Which brought to mind another one, what about the Rocky theme?
If you hear that song you are almost immediately picturing Rocky running up those stars and jumping at the top. At least that's what the song brings to mind for me.
