Every time I read about their "sparkly" skin in Twilight (yes, I admit I read them - except I couldn't finish book 4 it was just so horrible lame) I thought someone should just step away from arts and craft projects and vials of glitter. That Edward & Cullen Co couldn't go out in the sunlight because they would be all "shiny happy people" made no sense, haven't they heard of make up? And Dr. Cullen.. well, I don't know many ER doctors who can just take a day off to "go hiking" with his kids. Sparkly vampires is just of putting. I can see why she chose them to sparkle though, the character of Bella was about as dull as a cement floor.

What actual teenage guy would go out in public if he sparkled?

I only sparkle in the basement, when everyone is asleep.

The difference is, Edward isn't an actual teenage guy. And he doesn't go out in public in the sun.
