Just received this kindle, it locked up so I pushed the button for 20 seconds as in the recommendation. Nothing, so I tried for 30 seconds as suggestions. Green light comes on but screen is black. Any ideas?? Can't be without it for long - my addiction. :o(

I have a kindle fire and it won't turn on, I received my kindle as a gift about 3 months ago and I'm currently servinf overseas so I don't have phone access to call the customer support I just have a little wifi from time to time so input from people on here would be greatly appreciated. Yesterday morning my kindle wouldn't turn on and about an hour later it was working again.. Then again last night it wouldn't turn on and its been like that for about 24 hours now. When I plug my charger in the screen reads "kindle fire" then just goes black. I know it has a charge because its been on the charger all night and day pretty much. I came across this thread with people expieriencing similar problems and they all seem to have it fixed soon after, but I've tried litterally every suggestion I've seen at least a dozen times already. From holding the power button from 20-70 seconds then hitting it again. I've read numerous threads but nothing seems to help. I just want to know if anyone is expieriencing this issue as well and what other suggestions people may have or if it'll somehow turn itself on after a few days. Any feedback I get regarding this is appreciated. Thank you

Since there's so many people having problems with this, I wonder if it may be a bug in the software update. I tried updating the software but my Kindle won't turn OFF and only seems to work when connected to the computer. Anybody got a hook on the software developers?

I bought mine from Staples. After two weeks the same thing happened to me. I put it down to get a cup of coffee, came back and it's dead, won't start. I've tried all the button pushing. I took it to Staples and their "tech" guy tried to start it also. They ended up exchanging it for me. Glad I bought the warranty!

Im not sure what's the problem with my kindle. But out of no where today it just no longer charge. I stick it in the plugger thing but nothing. No light no nothing. But when I push the button on the bottom of the kindle. (Sorry I dont know what its call ;) ) it says BATTERY TOO LOW TO POWER ON. please connect charger and wait 15 mins before switching on your kindle again. I plug it over and over again but nothing only that. Is it broken? I've only had it for a year and a half.

Thanks Jeffrey. My wife had the same problem after charging. Following your advice she held the button with power supply connected for 30 secs didn't work, then tried again without the cable and it came on after releasing the button before she had the chance to press the power button again. Panic over Cheers.

I didn't mean to post on someone elses post. Was trying to post a new thread. My bad. Thanks for the info. Will definetly contact them once I am in the states where I can send them this one, and have it replaced. Thansk for the information. The usb did get loose, but if I plugged it in to charge, at an angle it still took the charge. But being in Africa, its not like I can easily call or send things to be replaced.

Thanks Ron Bryant for the cloud information. I can see what everyone is doing about the loose port charger , it sometimes seems it is loose in mine.I don't know if it wasn't charging or if it was not coming out of hibernation mode. The charger light didn't always come on either. That Battery app is a good purchase, in my opinion. I love my kindle do hope there aren't many problems. Does anyone else find that that their kindle drains battery fast and also takes s long time to charge? Just wondering if all kindle fire's are like this or if it is just mine.

I thought it was in reply to a much older posting and was in the wrong place. I'm not used to the amazon message boards. My solution so far has been to hold down the on/off button for 30 seconds per the reset instructions, wait another 30 seconds or so and then press the on button normally, just a 1-2 second press. If the screen doesn't turn on then I swipe across it a few times and the screen will eventually wake up. After reading more of these postings, it seems to be a problem of it not coming out hibernation or sleep mode. I don't think this is a problem of the battery not holding a charge or bad usb cords. Although, it's hard to tell when my kindle fire is successfully charging - there's no light indicator. I have to go into the device settings to see the battery status.
