Awesome, thank you Shannon A from Amazon Kindle Customer Service.

Your instructions helped me tonight since my Kindle Fire HD decided to go black screen on me with a little white on it. Did the Hard Reset and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much for your assistance. I enjoy using my Kindle Fire HD and all of it's benefits that come with it. Love It. Thanks again.

I was experiencing a problem where the kindle fire was playing a radio station for me overnight. Woke up it was still playing but screen wouldn't respond and stayed black. Was pretty bummed til I tried the 20 second reset and it solved whatever happened. Thanks a lot for the tip!

Also had my Kindle Fire turn off in the middle of when I was reading. I tried to hold the start button for 20 seconds, but still wont turn on. When I press the button the light turns green for 3 seconds but then turns off again.

My Kindle Fire screen went black, too. I tried plugging it in, thinking that the battery may have gone dead. There was no change after I plugged it in, though. The screen did not turn on, as it usually does when I recharge it. I unplugged it and tried the hard reset, pressing the start button for 30 seconds, but still nothing happened. I plugged it in again and just left it for awhile. About 30 minutes, I noticed that the green power light had come on. My Kindle now works as before. All is good once again!

Hello W. J. Wilkening,

This could be just a simple software issue. Restarting the software can solve intermittent problems. First, be sure your Kindle Fire is disconnected from any power source and that the device is turned on.

Performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire may resolve intermittent issues like a frozen screen, battery issues or trouble downloading content to your Kindle Fire.

To perform a hard reset on your Kindle Fire, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and then release. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

If your Kindle Fire is still unresponsive, try charging your Kindle Fire before trying to reset the device again.

If you require further assistance or if the issue persists, please feel free to contact Amazon Kindle Customer Support: http://www.amazon.com/contact-us

Best Regards,

Shannon A.
