Hello

We just got the Kindle Fire and love it. The device is for my wife but all of the amazon content is linked to my amazon account.

Is there a way to keep all of my (our) books and apps on there but make it hers? So things like recommendations etc are all hers, rather than being recommended gillette mach 3 razors and calvin klein boxers?

It's not a dealbreaker or anything, but it would certainly make the device seem like it's hers rather than mine.

I upgraded to the Fire thinking it was a full-fledged Kindle; however, I cannot find "My Clippings.txt" anywhere. I search every folder on the Fire. I made a point of creating new highlights and found nothing. Has this feature been excluded from the Fire?

Artist,

Go to Amazon's website, My Account, Manage Your Kindle, and then Manage Your Devices. You will see your Kindle Fire in the list. Edit it so that it has your wife's name. Then reboot the Fire. It won't change right away (my wife's didn't), but it will eventually update to show your wife's name.

Now that will change the name, but I don't think it will change the recommendations. If you have a Prime Account, you can add your wife to the account. I wonder if that would make a difference if you set it up that way.

I bought a Kindle about 2 weeks before the Kindle Fire was released. If I'd know the 'Fire' was coming out I would have purchased the 'Kindle Fire'. Can I release my current Kindle and have the purchase price applied to the Kindle Fire?

Artist,
After much research, I've found that the best way to do this is to Deregister the Kindle Fire and set up her own account. Unfortunately this will dissolve your wife's preferences and titles, but the device will then be linked solely to her. Or as indicated by Shawn P. above, you can edit the name, but this will keep your preferences connected to the device.

Also, there are a few videos you can watch in Amazon's Kindle Support section. This one was especially helpful (if you watch the whole thing and pay attention).

Adding her account to prime will do *nothing* for the Fire. That account will still not get any of the benefits of Prime besides free shipping.

If you deregister the kindle from your account, she will not be able to access any content on your account. The books on the device are wiped off when you deregister, so she won't even have those available.

If you had asked that within 30 days of receiving your kindle, then yes. Now, no. You could do the trade-in program, but you'd be better off selling your kindle yourself.

I recommend keeping her on your account if you already have content on your account. Otherwise, she will not have access to any of your amazon account on her kindle, which would be a massive loss for her...

Just bought a Kindle Fire for mu daughter. Is it possible to switch the profile on the kindle directly to my daughter without my amazon profile popping up first?
