Has anyone had this problem? I've been using my Kindle Fire without any issues at all. And all of the sudden, I put my Fire down, to do something else - and, now it won't turn on. And, when I plug it in (even though I know it was plenty charged when I used it an hour ago), the light to indicate charging does not light up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

I had this happen to mine and I held down the button that turns the Fire on - and it must have reset it - and it came back.

I know there are other threads where people are having problems like this.

Happened to me yesterday for the second time in 2 weeks. Very frustrating! I am searching the forums now for other thread on this and possible corrections.

UPDATE: Nothing of value in other postings. Many are just folks who don't know to swipe the arrow across the screen. The only other suggestion is the "20 second" hard reset. I have tried that many times, even counting to 30 and timing on a watch, and still it won't turn on. Then, out of the blue, for some unknown reason, it starts working perfectly again. It is not a charge issue since, when it comes back on, there is still plenty of charge.

I have had this happen twice, and it has not been able to turn on for over 12 hours. I tried holding the power button for various lengths of time with no result. The charge light will not come on when plugged in. Amazon needs to figure this out. Does anyone have a service phone number or anything?

@F. carley: Contact Amazon's Kindle CS and ask them about it. Click Help (near center at top of new Amazon page; upper right on old pages). Click Kindle (left column) or Kindle Help & Tools in the middle. Click Contact us (right column). Or you can go to http://www.amazon.com/contact-us

You can also give them a call at:

U.S. and Canada: 1-866-216-1072
Kindle Support: 1-866-321-8851
International: 1-206-266-2992

Or, they will call you back if that facility is enabled for your country. You leave your info at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html?ie=UTF8 - you must leave your landline phone number if you live outside the U.S.A., Australia or New Zealand. This works really well.

Thanks, guys. Inexplicably, mine came back on. The inconsistency is kind of nerve wracking... UGH.

Thanks!!

Thank you for the info! Mine is having the same exact problem. Hopefully they'll be able to help!

Had same problem as Michelle (posted 11/26). Held the power button for 30 seconds, pushed it again and it came on. This must be the "hard reset".

I had the exact same problem as everyone else. I held the power button down for 30 seconds, released the button, then pushed it again once and it turned on without any problems. I hope this helps someone else!

Update 12-2-2011: amazon called me today because I posted this comment just to make sure my kindle fire was working properly. Pretty impressive.

My Kindle Fire was just delivered by UPS; had it about 10 minutes. Just unwrapped it and plugged in the power cable, hit the on button, and nothing. I'm glad I found this discussion thread right away -- I'll be contacting CS tomorrow! Thanks for the head up about this issue.

Jeffrey,

Kindle wouldn't turn on. Pretty much the same problem as those cited. This solved the problem. Thanks!

Unfortunately this didn't work on mine, the good news for anyone who's Fire is completely dead is that Customer Service gives zero hassle, they just ship you a new one.

I hate to see that so many people are having this issue. So far (knock on wood), mine has been fine since it finally resurrected itself. Has anyone gotten any official response from Amazon, with regard to this issue? As it certainly does seem to be relatively common.

Patricia - I wish you good luck with having it delivered to work!!!

Linda - mine, on it's own, starting working again - so, maybe yours will too (Not that we should be OK with that even if it does - I really hope that amazon addresses this as a real issue).

no charge light here either. I am ready to charge my kindle for the first time and it is not doing so.

I had exactly the same issue this morning. I went to turn my kindle on and it was completely non-responsive. I thought maybe the battery was dead, so I plugged it in, but the light didn't turn on. So I went online and thankfully found this thread. I held the power button down for 30 seconds then pushed the power button again and it restarted itself. I hope Amazon comes up with a fix for this because I can't imagine it's good for the kindle to have a hard reset done like that a lot.

I am having this same problem just now after two weeks of problem-free use. Major bummer - so many people complaining of the same thing. If this is a common problem this makes the Fire useless. I was loving my Fire and advocating for it to my FB and Twitter followers, but now I have to reconsider. If the is always a possibility of it just not turning on no matter how reasonable the price or how good the content it is useless. Thats why I am writing this on my HTC smartphone ratbher than the Fire - because it is dependable and always turns on.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it! I was reading this trying o figure out how to get my Fire back on, and all of a sudden it turns on! I would be of mind to start screaming and running away in fear of ghost but I'm to grateful to the "God of Kindle"
