On the Kindle goto Menu - Settings and look at the bottom right corner at the Version Number, if it starts with a 1 then you have the K1, if it starts with a 2 then you have the K2, if it starts with a 3 you have the K3.

If the serial# starts with...

B001 = Kindle 1
B002 = Kindle 2 U.S. (Sprint)
B003 = Kindle 2 International (AT&T)
B004 = Kindle DX U.S.
B005 = Kindle DX International
B006 = Kindle 3 3G + WiFi Graphite/White (U.S. and Canada) NOTE: Some European cities may receive this serial number as well.
B008 = Kindle 3 WiFi
B009 = Kindle DX Graphite
B00A = Kindle 3 3G + WiFi Graphite (Europe)

You can now see more information about your registered Kindles on the new Manage Your Kindle page. Click Manage Your Devices in the left column. The new page will show you a picture of your Kindle, it's serial number, its type and of course the name and email address.
