Kindle iPhone app won't sync to last position in Kindle Fire

Topic says it. Kindle Fire will sync to furthest read position in Kindle iPad app, but unfortunately Kindle iPhone app won't sync to last position in Kindle Fire. Rather frustrating.

Hello warmfuzzykitten,

To make sure your Kindle for iPhone saves your furthest page read in a Kindle book, tap the center of your screen when you're finished reading to activate the tool bar and select the Whispersync option from the list. When you return to your book, it will automatically open at the location you were reading.

You must have "Annotations Backup" turned on in order to sync your reading with the Kindle app. To turn on annotations backup, open the app and tap on the lowercase "i" icon in the bottom right corner; then scroll to the bottom of the next screen and make sure "Annotations Backup" is turned on. (Note that if you are using the app on an iPad, you'll need to first tap "Settings.")

Kindle also uses your Whispernet connection to save your furthest page read on Amazon.com. This allows you to sync your furthest page read to other Kindle devices and applications.

I hope this helps!

Best Regards,

Shannon A.

Shannon, that wasn't the question. The problem is that the info from the FIRE doesn't seem to be picked up by Amazon and synched to some other devices/apps.

I'm not having any problem with last place read on a Fire transmitting to my K2 in an Amazon book purchase, but others say that it isn't transmitting to the reading apps, in this case iphone/ipad app.

There is absolutely no info being picked up from the Fire for the Archive Enabled Personal Documents. I have sent feedbacks and emails and the answer seems to be yeah, but the Fire is an app.

But the fact that Amazon allows highlights and notes in these emailed items on the FIRE is a serious problem. It is IMPLIED that they are backed up as they are on all the other devices. When people (especially students) find out that these items aren't backed up they are going to be very angry. This is exactly like the lawsuit Amazon settled when they deleted the Orwell book and a student lost all his notes. He sued, they paid. Amazon needs to pay some attention to this.

Have you tried turning on Annotations on your ios devices and then doing a hard reset? I was having the same problem and somewhere in my problem solving I guess I'd turned it off. A few minutes ago I opened the Kindle app on my ipad, iphone and ipod touch and turned Annotations back on. It didn't work until I did a hard reset of each device ( hold down Home and Power buttons until the device turns itself off and the white Apple logo reappears). Once I did that Whispersync is now working. I'm wondering if Amazon changed something about three weeks ago because before that I'd had no problems. Hope this helps someone.

That's good to know. I think the problem here is that there is no Annotations Backup setting on the Fire, not that I've found anyway. I was hoping Shannon would return with more comment on this problem.

Bart Berger says:
I found that I have to actually close the book (go back to the home screen) on the Fire to make it sync the last-read position to http://amazon.com. Simply locking the Fire with the "power" button won't do it.

Closing the app in the Fire accomplishes nothing for me. I can't get the fire to keep last read place even on itself. If I close the app it continues to want last ipad location. and like others commented, Ipad nor iphone recognize any activity on kindle fire.

Let me clarify: My PC kindle app, my iphone kindle app, my Mac kindle app, and my Ipad kindle app will all send last read paragraphs to each other and to the kindle fire- but the kindle fire's last read page is ignored by all of those apps on those devices. It is really frustrating since I prefer to carry the Fire in my pocket all day. Amazon are you out there? this has gone on for weeks now.

I. Sterling says:
I'm having the exact same problem. I have a K3 and a K6. I also have the iOS apps for iPhone 4 and iPad 1. When I first got my fire, three days ago, everything worked. Today - no dice.

FWIW, when I read in the Cloud Reader, nothing is sync'd at all. I've always had to go back on my K3 or the iOS apps and find the newest location manually.

David Etter says:
This seems to be a common issue. For me, if I read on the iPhone Kindle app, my Kindle Touch will sync to the last location. However, when I read on the Kindle Touch, the iPhone Kindle app will NOT find the latest location. Annotations backup is turned on in the iPhone Kindle app.

I believe this will help you all. At least those with i5's
Tap the Kindle app on your phone's screen.
If you're reading a book and the book opens, get to the home page by tapping the menu bars in the upper left-hand corner. Then tap the "house/home" symbol on the upper right-hand corner opposite the word "Library". This gets you to the home page.
In the screen that opens, tap the "gear" symbol at the bottom right-hand side of the screen. This opens the Settings Screen.
Tap "Other", located at the bottom of the screen.
Tap "Annotations Sync and Backup" to turn it on.
This should fix the problem.
