Hi- I paid $64 for my kindle. I refused to pay $30 for a cover. Any inexpensive however sturdy covers? There are way to many options on http://amazon.com.

Any recommendations?

I get your point, but I have to say that the Kindle lighted covers have been absolutely worth it for us. I like to read in bed, and the lighted cover sheds just the right amount of light without any extra parts or bulk. Sadly, it pretty much costs the same as the Kindle itself.

I was in the same boat after I bought my Kindle. It seemed that paying half the price of a Kindle was much too much for for a cover. However, after having to replace my Kindle due to a broken screen sustained while in a cheaper case, (Cheaper here is a relative term. It still cost $20.) I decided to go with Amazon's case. I couldn't be happier. The way the Kindle fits and the protective hard bottom was definitely worth the extra ten dollars. And I think it looks good too. That being said, if you don't mind the elastic bands, I would try the Marware Eco-Vue. My friend has one and she loves it. I also think the holding strap on the back is pretty nice. The Marware Jurni doesn't look bad either. You can find both for around $20, which I think is about the best you can do for an actual cover. Otherwise, you might try looking into sleeves. They make several nice sleeves, and anyone will do you well. Just keep in mind, most are not sturdy. Hope this helps.

There are tons of patterns out there that you could make one. If you do not have a sewing machine or can't sew I am sure you could find someone that could for a small fee. They are not hard to make. Many different styles. Try Clotilde on the internet. Hope this helps. There are many ways to make the cover sturdy when making one yourself. I got a cover on Amazon.com for $13.00 and paid no shipping and I love it. I pickup up one for my Daughter and She loves it to. You just have to have patience and look around. Good Luck.

Although I did spend $40+ for the excellent Marware case for my Kindle Fire, I too felt foolish spending that amount for the $79 basic Kindle I added later for reading outside. I bought this nice Acase case for under $10 and have been happy with it. However, I know this is for the newest basic Kindle, so be sure it will work with your model. Acase(TM) Classic Kindle Leather Case (Black) for 4th Generation 6" Kindle Wi-Fi w/o Keyboard (Not for Kindle Touch)
