So ... I am transferring to the Middle East soon and was considering the Kindle to read books. I know I can download the books onto my laptop and then load them to the device but what about newspapers??

Amazon shows several newspapaers that can be downloaded. They claim that the papers will be downloaded daily begining at 3:30 am, local time. It lacks most graphics and has no local advertising content, but has the local news in an easy to use format. I subscribe to the Kansas City Star, which intitially worked fine. The downloads are coming later, and at 6:00 am it still has not downloaded. The local circulation department of the Star denies any connection with the digital download, leaving no direct contact for problems. Hopefully, this is a temporary problem as they have been adding more graphic content when it does download. There is nobody to directly contact to resolve any problems you may have.
