But -- take a PC and add $40 for a decent virus protection program (most PCs actually come with virus protection).

It still isn't equal to Apple's pricing. I think they just have ridiculous profit margins. They are a very profitable company because people would like to pay a premium for a feeling, as opposed to an actuality.

I like my Kindle, but can't figure out how to surf the web and be able to read things. Yahoo com is so small a magifiging glass is needed to see it. I know this is off subject, but can someone tell me how they do it?

What I regret is NOT buying the Fire! I have had 3 Kindles so far, and have loved every single one of them. However, a friend who has a Nook Color, convinced me that it was amazing and I really, really needed one, so last month I bought one. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the magazines on Nook- it's like reading the paper version, but the B&N storefront isn't user friendly like Amazon, in my humble opinion. I so wish I had just bought the Fire........ah well, live and learn!

RE,
You can use an Android feature to pinch-zoom the font/text to a large size, to the point the paragraph of a column extends beyond the screen borders ... then double-tap the screen, and it will keep the large font while adjusting the text to the width of the screen and wrapping it appropriately.

SOMEtimes, the double-tap leads to the tiny version again, but if you double-tap once more, then it goes back up to the large font for text (which exceeded the boundaries you were at when you first double-tapped) but now adjusts the screen-wrap. It's called "re-flowing" the text and when it's done for a nicely large font, it is very nifty.

I explain this more at a blog article I wrote -- and some of the tips work for both the KTouch and the KFire.

This is the best thing since sliced bread....for the money it can't be beat.
Install GolauncherEX and it turns into a custmizable and much more fun Kindle.

Zero regrets and all smiles here.

Check the return policy on your Nook. Amazon is allowing returns until the end of the month.

I love my fire, but honestly, I've kind of migrated towards my Kindle Keyboard and use it more. Too many distractions on the Fire.

Absolutely not. I read on my Kindle 3 in daylight and on the Fire late at night in bed. The apps are great. I've seen a few posts that don't care for Amazon Prime. I live in a rural area, and prime is great - free shipping all year. It sure beats driving 60 miles north or 80 miles south. I haven't watched much of free videos for prime, but I have borrowed a couple of books through prime. My only complaint about the Fire is battery life, but for its size, it's competitive and understandable.

Avid, I get about 7 hrs of constant use on mine. If I use it a little at a time, and then put it to sleep, the next day it's dropped only one or two percentage points.

I use Advanced Task Manager app (free) and before I put it to sleep, I just kill everything listed (assuming I've not left changes needed, like annotations in a book, open -- and I close a book by pressing Home. But normally, on KFire, that's what you do anyway to get to use an app.

Nothing is active while it's asleep. The KFire turns off the WiFi when it goes to sleep. So I can go for days if I'm not using it for hours at a stretch for something.

Absolutely not! I needed a Kindle so I could start reading again with big fonts. Went blind in my left eye a couple years back and my right eye didn't get the memo to take over! It is an added plus that I can take my Fire to my daughter's or even to town and leave my laptop home!! Now I have to learn to control book downloads!! I am addicted to downloading free ones that interest me!!

I love my Kindle Fire. It took three tries for me to get a good one, but since I got one, I haven't looked back. My Kindle 3 hasn't seen much use since I got my KF. I really need to spread the love to all of my Kindle devices, not just the one. ;)
