There have been many discussions on addiction to FREE books. I thought we could help each other in recommending ones to move up on our TBR list (ones you got for free only please). With such a large stockpile, many are getting passed-over and forgotten. It might not be free any longer but if you got it for free I'm guessing many others also did.
A few I've really enjoyed lately are:
A Child al Confino was free, now $9.95
Blue was free, now $1.99
Cottage by the Sea was free, now $5.99
Walking on Broken Glass was free, now $2.99
Crossing Oceans was free, now $9.59

From Smashwords, all of Heather Huffman's books. All still free.

Lynn Osterkamp has written two books and one of them might still be listed here as free.
Too Near the Edge
Too Far Under

Both are about a therapist who specializes in grief counseling, and with the cryptic help from a "spirit", Tyler she is able to find out what really happened. I enjoyed both of her books very much.

Raising Jake was free when I got it but now $8.69

One Hit Wonder was free now $7.38

I'm not sure I can say what my favorite was, but one I recently completed - and it is still free - is Cloudburst. If you like action / thriller books in the line of TOm Clancy, this is a good one.

Interesting idea! I haven't read any of the ones you listed yet.

The End Is Now, now $.99: a very strange take on "the Rapture is coming" idea. The ending was weak, as I was pretty sure it would be because I saw the author painting himself into a corner, but the getting-there was interesting enough that even at $0.99 I recommend it. (Above that amount, I probably wouldn't.)

Fourteen Days Later (Romantic Comedy), now $3.49: okay, it's chick lit so almost by definition silly and you KNOW who she is going to wind up with, but this was cute-silly and a pleasant read. Still a decent buy for the price, although I think $2.99 would be a better maximum price for it.

Hollywood Nobody (Hollywood Nobody Series, Book 1), now overpriced at $7.99; touching YA story of a girl growing up without much parenting, spending most of her time on movie sets, starting her own blog. The story itself was okay, the emotional portrayal of a lonely teenager was better (but not depressing). I was able to pick up #2 for a buck a few weeks ago and I'm glad I grabbed it.

The most *useful* one was probably Android Phones: The How-To Guide, now $2.99. It showed me a few tricks on my phone that I didn't know about.

Don't bother with Brian Lawrenson's travel books. At free, they are overpriced: disorganized, not edited, and generally useless. The photos are pretty, but most are either unlabelled and mis-labelled, and he doesn't bother with photos of the scenes that (reading the text) sound worth looking at.

His Majesty's Dragon. Absolutely loved it. It's the first book in what I believe is now a 6 book series. I have read them all & can't wait until the next one comes out.

Wow, you were blessed to get that one free! I agree it was a wonderful Hornblower-type fantasy, although Novik lost me later in the series when it got all dark. But the first couple were great adventures.

Bone Rattler: A Mystery of Colonial America is now 9.99, but was a free one. It is, without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read in all my life. I bought Eye of the Raven: A Mystery of Colonial America as soon as I could, even though it was also 9.99. It was every bit as good as the Bone Rattler. They are both beautifully written. I say 9.99 is high, but it's because I am older and my husband and I really have to watch our pennies...not complaining about pricing here :D

You guys are playing along with this great! I thought I was bad about all the free books I've one-clicked on, however I see I've missed several that look really good. How did that happen? That's my excuse to continue the "free" watch. Certainly not complaining because I've moved several up my TBR list, which is exactly what I wanted from this post. Thanks to all. Keep 'em coming.

Caught Stealing was free once upon a time but is now $11.99

The Whiskey Rebels: A Novel was also free before becoming $11.99

Both were excellent for very different reasons/styles.

Fifth Avenue (Book One in the Fifth Avenue Series) was one of the first free books that I read and I remember it was very good.

I, too, seem to have missed several previously free books that look really good. But I still managed to pick up several from this thread that I'm looking forward to reading.

Darkfever: The Fever Series The first in Karen Marie Moning's Fever series; it was free last July. Awesome book and awesome series!

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. It is a long book but there is nothing that could have been left out. I was enthralled the entire time I was reading it. Eye of the Raven: A Mystery of Colonial America is much shorter...an average size book and is the continuing story. I would love for Eliot Pattison to write another book and continue the series. I would gladly do without something else to get it :)

I read two great books that were Free for a short period of time, both by Sidney Sheldon Rage of Angels, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?: 1 (Sheldon, Sidney).
