I can get carried away one-clicking when I see books posted that are on sale. With all the great sales, I sometimes would like to discuss the merits of a book with others before the one-clicking begins.

My grandad told my grandma "You would buy the Titanic if it was on sale." I have bought several "Titanic Books," and I'm sure everyone here has. I know that I will in the future, but I would like to keep it to a minimum!

So if anyone wants to discuss books that are on sale, please join!

Here's the addresses of the two threads:

I will start with:
Thrush Green. Has anyone read this, and what are your thoughts?

Which books of Kurt Vonnegut did you like, and do you have a favorite?

Hi Manydawgs

I found the "Daily Deals" page... I just can't seem to find the "Discounted/Price Dropped Kindle eBooks" page. (I know I've been there before, sheesh) Will you point me in the right direction? Thanks

Edited my post with the addresses!

I've read Thrush Green and am a big fan of the author, Miss Read. I read the whole Thrush Green series (the Fairacre novels are Miss Read's other running series) over 20 years ago and re-read the books again recently when they first came to Kindle. Thrush Green is about cozy English village life with a roster of charming characters who's stories are told in such a wonderful and engaging way that you can't help loving them and wanting them to be your neighbors! Thrush Green at $6.18 is a bargain for this delightful read!

I have liked just about every Vonnegut book I ever read. Standouts to me are:

Slaughterhouse Five
Mother Night
Cat's Cradle
Breakfast of Champions

But my favorite Vonnegut is Welcome To The Monkeyhouse. It is collected short stories. It contains two of my all time favorite pieces of writing ever. "Who Am I This Time?" & "The Long Walk to Forever" both are beautiful, romantic, and simple stories that left a permanent mark on my heart.

@manydawgs, I responded to the comment that you wrote over on the "Kindle Daily Deal" thread. I'll repeat it here.

The objective for the "Kindle Daily Deal" thread was to give everyone a heads up on the new promo. There's no problem with making comments or discussing the daily book deals on the "Kindle Daily Deal" thread.

The OP for the "Discounted/Prices Dropped" thread stated that its purpose was for posting discounted books. The occasional comment or question was/is easily accepted on that very long and ongoing thread but there have been times when the
off-topic remarks outnumbered the posts for discounted titles. The challenge of the "Discounted/Prices Dropped" thread has been to keep everyone primarily focused on posting the discounts they find.

Dawgie --

As I mentioned elsewhere, I have only read the Fairacre Miss Read books, but enjoyed them very much. The storylines are about regular people, nothing much happens, but tha's good. You won't have to "worry" about one of the characters being murdered! Of course, there are deaths, but it's in the natural progression of life.

As for Vonnegut, I have not read any of his books, so can't help. I might have read a short story or two, the mention of "Who Am I This Time?" struck a chord, but that's no guarantee.

ETA -- I'd love to be a participant, but can't promise (I keep getting downvoted in the Discounted And the What are you reading threads, so I guess no one else reads what I do. Or, I don't read what they do)

BAJ, Do keep participating! I don't understand some of the down voting that occurs in the Discounted/Prices Dropped thread.

I've spent more money on cheap books, but they begin to add up. Some have been good, others not so good. I just read one that I really enjoyed. "Life, Love, and Texting." cute romantic comedy. Mindless, simple, entertainment, but worth the $0.99 for a change.

This thread is in no way to take away from the discounted thread, but rather to complement it. Sometimes I would like to just talk about the books, and there have been a few posters who want that thread to just be postings of books that are on sale. I do not see people only posting on just one thread....
And as I said before, I would have to put the discounted thread as one of the top threads that I look for many times throughout the day!

OT -- Votes

Don't worry, I'll keep on posting the books I want to post about. It just seems so silly to me, that's all. Sometimes I have bets with myself about how many I'll get. So far, it's been a win-win situation ;)

Okay, does it have to be books from those two threads? Because I have a question about:

The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker

It was in the Big Deal sale last month. I read the sample, and it was interesting, but ultimately I didn't buy it. I did buy Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack, The (Burton & Swinburne), also from the Big Deal sale.

T. Haley,
You mentioned the "Thrush Green" series. Should the books be read in the order they were written ? Or are they stand alone books ?

Thank you,
Barb

This is a very laissez-faire (don't you like my french spoken with a Texas accent) thread!

Have you started Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack, The (Burton & Swinburne)?

I had never heard of Welcome to the Monkey House.
I read Slaughterhouse-Five: A Novel years ago, and would like to get it in kindle form...
I'll post the links to the others (which I would like as well...)
Mother Night: A Novel
Cat's Cradle (Kurt Vonnegut series)
Breakfast of Champions: A Novel

BadgerBAJ says:
No, I haven't read beyond the sample ;) Steampunk is so beyond my reading (I read the samples to the Parasol Protectorate and sooo disliked them), but Spring-heeled Jack was interesting. It helped that I have read about Sir Richard Burton and Speke, and watched Mountains of the Moon!

Love the French/Tex accent ;)

T.Haley,
Thank you for your reply. I like to know that before starting a series.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 24, 2011 9:10:32 PM PDT
Thanks! When I post from my phone, it is difficult to post links.

Hope you enjoy the books, I wish I still had Vonnegut to discover! I'm jealous.

"This thread is in no way to take away from the discounted thread, but rather to complement it."

I think it's a great idea, manydawgs! There have been times I've wanted to ask questions or make comments too, and usually hold back.

The other day I didn't want to attract the wrath of the off topic downvoters so didn't post something. But I will here!

I want to thank the people who posted about the Downside Ghost series being on sale, the first one (Unholy Ghosts) for 99 cents.

I seriously looked at that book a while back (probably after it was mentioned in the monthly reading poll), but decided against buying based on some comments in reader reviews. But now for only 99 cents I'm more than willing to give it a try and bought it.

I follow the discounted book thread and also the $.99 - $1.99 thread.
I appreciate in those threads that I can see the prices/books quickly without much conversation inbetween the price posts but would love to be able to ask opinions about the discounted/sale priced books.

So I feel this thread is a great idea idea. Thanks very much for starting it!

Has anyone read Life... With No Breaks? It's on sale.
In fact there are 6-7 new books on sale that are listed in the discounted thread.

Posted on Aug 26, 2011 6:05:49 PM PDT
@manydawgs: great idea for a thread! I saw 3 or 4 posts on the discounted thread that I wanted to comment on today, but I refrained. Of course, NOW I can't remember what they were... Thanks for starting it. (@BAJ--FTR, EVERYone gets voted down in the discounted thread, I've seen down votes for absolutely no reason. Someone has an itchy negative finger over there).
