I'm curious about this one. I think they may break it down by fiction and non-fiction at most libraries (so I'm going to do it that way). Mine also makes it easy to tell how many are available:

Fiction: 536 (77 available)
Non-fiction: 310 (102 available)

How about you?

Edited to add: Go to Overdrive.com and put in your zipcode to find your library. :)

M. Ratcheson says:
Fiction: 3103 (1315 available)
Non-fiction: 791 (329 available)

Since I began downloading ebooks from the library (to my laptop and iPhone) a few months ago, they've been adding titles monthly. So I expect that trend to continue, unless the surge of Kindlers makes it necessary for them to purchase more licenses for existing titles instead.

Our county does not have any ebooks. They are working on a contract but have not been able to settle it yet.

My library doesn't seem to separate it into fiction/non-fiction, but it says it has 13,522 Kindle books.

Hmm, I don't see how you break it down to fiction or non-fiction. I did an "advanced search" for all Kindle format books and got 3,832.

About 800 and not anything close to a "best-seller" - pretty disappointing so far since they're a great library as far as paperbook new releases go. (Pasadena, CA)

Greater Phoenix Digital Library (AZ) --serves a large, well-populated area:

Total Kindle format e-books: 20,453 *
Fiction: 14,695 (9,570 available)
Non-Fiction: 6,338 (4,877 available)

* the numbers don't seem to add up; some might be overlapping maybe? (fiction and non-fiction)

Library branches and Districts it serves:
Apache Junction Public Library, Arizona State Library, Casa Grande Public Library, Chandler Public Library, Glendale Public Library, Maricopa County Library District, Mesa Library, Peoria Public Library, Phoenix Public Library, Scottsdale Public Library System, Tempe Public Library

(Edited to add) I don't yet have my PIN number, so I can't borrow yet, but I was able to "put in book bag" and the ones I did said "Lending period: 14 days" (I immediately took them out, as I don't have a valid acct yet)

I must be near Nicole, mine says 20453 also (phoenix area). I'm excited for this feature, tho I'm a bit apprehensive about how long the waiting lists will become.

I'm in Maryland, I don't see that Kindle is available yet. I use the Overdrive App on my android phone mostly, so I can wait till the Kindle stuff comes in.

7721 (4978 avail) and of those 6364 (3764 avail) are Kindle Books. Yippie for Tampa!
Overall
5707 (3448 avail) Fiction
1889 (1396 avail) Non-Fiction

The numbers don't work because the library doesn't include children's fiction and so forth in those numbers.

As an active board member of our nonprofit community library (with limited budget and no dedicated tax base), I deeply regret that we do not have the resources to offer any circulating ebooks for our patrons, so, our answer of how many ebooks is "ZERO."

We have an increasing number of digital readers in our community, though, so we do our best to help people get started, and we point people (through links on our library website and announcements in our newsletter) to online sites of "free" downloadable content.

The problem becomes worse. Our library has depended heavily on book donations: almost 3/4 of the books on our shelves were passed on to us as hardback and paperback books from avid readers. Now these reader/donors are moving into Kindle and Nooks, and we are finding our donations dwindling.

How I wish there were a more affordable source of library-lendable materials. We are already experiencing the problem of "have/have-not" -- residents of more heavily populated or more affluent areas have access to OverDrive materials, while we in rural and unincorporated areas go without.

Yep, i'm in the phoenix area! I've already checked out two books that i've wanted to read for a while, and there were more that had no waiting lists but I had to be realistic, hahah I didn't want to check out too many at one time. But the waiting list for The Help is 460 people right now!

Common Sense (love your name!) - The Kindle specific titles are 4,818 not broken out by genre. Gee, I guess after living in Denver for 38 years I'll have to break down and go get a library card. LOL!

Houston Public Library says it has 5200. I assume that is fiction and non-fiction.

Bufo said ebooks, not Kindle books, although every one I checked was available for Kindle.

Jeffco has 6534 ebooks and is a lot more likely to have something without a wait list. For now anyway.

I've had both Jeffco and Denver library cards for a long time, I'm a native who grew up in Westminster. Got my first library card when I was 5, we lived across the street from the library. DPL is very handy considering the number of branches they have. They're also a great research library, the 4th floor is all genealogy resources.
