Does anyone know how to delete books from a Kindle Fire HD? I am trying to set one up for my daughter, but there are books on it that are not appropriate for her.

Lisa - The basic way to delete is to long press on the book cover and select "remove from device." However, the book can immediately be downloaded again from the cloud. You probably want to set up parental controls and Kindle Free Time to control the content your daughter views and can access. More info:

The best thing to do is a refund. That way, you get money back for it, while it's also not on the Kindle Fire HD anymore. Learn about the refund policies here:

I was searching for an answer on the above question and found yours. Thank you! BUT... do you know how I can delete a book from my screen if purchased by accident? (The "remove from device" doesn't do that :-p).
Thank you!

To do that, you have to sign in here at Amazon and go to "Manage Your Kindle". From there, you can return an accidentally purchased title (within 7 days), and choose the reason.

Delete music from where, exactly? What are you talking about?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 15, 2013 7:16:17 PM PST
Are you talking about deleting a book from the Kindle4Mac app, or deleting it from your amazon account?

Log into your account. From there, select manage your Kindle.
What kind of problem are you having?

After you purchase a book for a kindle is there a way to deliver the same book to all of your kindled(kindle, fire kindle,pc) ? Or do you have to choose only one to download the book to . Thanks

go to your amazon.com account and select manage your kindle. From there you should be able to permanently delete books. A warning will come up and ask you if you are sure you want to delete and warn you that if you delete the book, you will have to repurchase it if you want to read it again later.

On my Kindle I have several reference books that I never chose. They are language dictionaries that I don't want. I log into my Amazon account to manage my Kindle and the books are not listed. How can I get rid of them?

PJB says:
Eileen, Be careful when deleting the reference books. When reading any book (for example) if you put your finger on a word you don't know, it automatically pulls the definition up for you from the dictionary. If you delete the dictionary, this functionality will not work.

I am having the same trouble. I downloaded some FREE books into my kindle app. I decided I didn't want them anymore and wanted to delete them. When I log onto amazon, under manage my kindle, the books do not appear; only the books I have paid for appear. I can't find the free books listed under any of the headings and therefore can not delete them. Anyone know how to find/delete them? The app just makes your archive them and I' d already tried deleting/deregistering my app to remove them - didn't work.

Amazon, make it much easier to remove audio books from my kindle, I have books I do not want on it any more and I can't remove them! Why? They make is sound like a feature to have books you don't want on your kindle. I was able to remove a image of a book I did not want and then the kindle downloaded the image again without even asking me... how is this a feature? Just let me choose what's on my kindle, its not yours its mine why the big brother thinking you know better then we do?

Hi Lisa, What if I don't want the book on my cloud at all? I want to get rid of it completely. Is this just a quirk of Kindle that I have to deal with? Thanks.

The books that were free don't appear on the list though. Those are the ones I'm attempting to delete.

Unfortunately I haven't. I still have the books on my app... I've tried everything.
