Kathy J says:
I' drooling over this new Kindle, but before I committ, does anyone have any idea whether this can be read in bright sunlight like my Kindle can? If this is similar to the iPad instead of the Kindle, is that a feature I would be giving up? I love my Kindle for the beach and pool, and this is non-negotiable for me.

Another question. Will I need a wireless plan thru a cell phone provider, or will content come like it does now? HELP - I need more answers!!

Q says:
The screen's description mentions the iPad as a comparison, so I'd guess that it has the same limitations in sunlight that every other LED backlit screen has now (incl the iPad and every other tablet).

How about connecting a keyboard? w/o bluetooth, can a keyboard be connected to it to make it a usable tool for students? And will Amazon be going after the textbook market for Kindle?

No, the usb port is only for connecting to your pc, not the same kind of USB as devices connect with. Just like the iPad.

No. It's not meant to be a knockoff laptop.

Is there a way to pull photos off my Digital SLR, or straight off the SD Card?
I can currently do this with my iPad via a USB adapter purchased separately from Apple.

Actually the iPad does have a way to connect USB adapters for transferring photos, outputting standard def video, etc. If the K-Fire doesn't do any of this, I guess that's why it's only $200.

So let's see, no bluetooth, USB is only good for sync and charging, apparently no way to pull photos off my SD cards while in the field... I'm not seeing how this is supposed to the next great tablet...

What apps will be available? Will there be an app capable of filling out PDF forms, including buttons, text boxes, etc?

The fire was not meant to be the next breakthrough in tablet technology.

My earlier answer was simple, straightforward, and to the point. No snit intended. Why expand on an answer when it won't offer any additional information?

Has anyone heard anything about whether the KFire will have gps or gyro?

J. Donahue says:
No

Greg Wright says:
Pretty sure it doesn't have gps. They'd nearly certainly say so if it did.

What seems a shame to me is that with the simple addition of bluetooth or a keyboard usb port to allow for a keyboard (looks like ipad has bluetooth keyboard covers), this would be a perfect tool for a mom like me to give a H.S. freshman like my son for Christmas. Then if Kindle corners the textbook market, that completes the package!

badbitbucket says:
Well, OK, maybe "No. It's not meant to be a knockoff laptop. " wasn't meant to be snotty, but it definitely came across that way online.

Can I keep my 3G Kindle active to use in places without Wi-Fi if I get a Fire? I'd like to have the flexibility to read my books on either machine.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 28, 2011 3:02:56 PM PDT
J. Donahue says:
No, it doesn't have those in this iteration.

J. Donahue says:
Yes, you sure can.
