Where can I download 3.7? Can I download it from the Amazon Appmarket? My tablet can't use Google Play Store for some reason. Is there a way to install it or sideload it directly from Amazon?

Does this update mean that anyone worldwide can purchase from the Japanese Kindle store (which opens today)? I'd love to download Japanese novels and manga via the kindle. Otherwise, why bother supporting Japanese in regions that can't access the Japanese Kindle store.

I have installed the update but now the app wont open. I am one of many experiencing this. DO NOT download the update.

Bufo Calvin says:
Hatoyama, where a store can sell its e-books is dependent in part on licensing, which is in turn dependent on copyright law.

If a company has paid the rightsholder (typically, the author or the author's estates) a certain amount to be able to sell the e-book in Japan, that does not give them the right to sell the book outside that market (where the rights may have been licensed to another publisher).

If Amazon allowed customers from around the world to buy from the Japanese store, that could result in a publisher violating their license, which could have serious legal consequences...and therefore, publishers would be less likely to sell through Amazon.

As to supporting Japanese outside Japan, there are many people who want to read in Japanese who do not reside in Japan. I believe there are more than a million Japanese speakers in the USA, with particularly high concentrations in Hawaii and Japan. Similarly, there are a lot of Japanese speakers in Australia.

One possible result is that now that there is a market reason to license and create Kindle store books in Japanese, that may result in more books in Japanese being available in places like the USA. The production costs are justified, so the publisher may also pay to license the work in globally, or at least in additional markets outside Japan.

There are books in Japanese in the USA Kindle store now:

Now, you'll be able to read those using Kindle for Android...

I installed it on 2 android phones (Samsung Galaxy SIII) and it works perfectly. Who are the "many"? You should probably just uninstall and reinstall. Happens sometimes when installing apps.

The update seems not to be working on Android 2.3.x, I also updated and now it doesn't load and in the Google Play store it says it is not compatible. Now I can't get the old version that worked on my phone so now I can't read books. Please fix this issue!

I had to remove the old program from my GS3 to get update 3.7 to load. It seems to be working fine.

Is there any way to get an older version of this app? MY HTC Liberty automatically updated, and now the app is no longer compatible.

I uninstalled the kindle app but now I can't even find it in the Play Store. On the market webpage it says that the Kindle App is incompatible with my phone. I'm on Android 2.3.7 on my HTC Hero (GSM).

This really needs to be fixed...

I do think this issue is related to screen size and not to Android's version as I have a GalaxyTab with Android 2.3.6 and the Play Store shows it as compatible and it works. But still this need to be fixed as it worked before for small screen devices so I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work anymore...

Version 3.6.x works like a charm, until this get's fixed I recommend using that version...

Careful with this upgrade! As some others have said, there seems to be a problem with this update, which you can easily verify by going to Google Play and checking the reviews. The one star reviews are multiplying by the minute.

I tried that on both my phones and I get a message stating the the Kindle version is not compatible with my devices...but I have been using the app on them for a couple of years. If you look at the reviews from the app store many people are experiencing difficulty.

And where would one get v. 3.6.x???

Maryann Andrade: Just do a quick Google search for "Kindle 3.6 apk", I downloaded the APK from one of the search results, though it's not guaranteed to be the "official" release as is always a risk with this sites... The latest version from 3.6.x I could find is

You can't use Google Play because Amazon and Google are competitors and Amazon does not allow access. THIS SUCKS! I can't get Firefox because it is only available through Google Play and I can't access some websites on my Fire HD.

Doesn't that void you warranty?
