Because there seems to be a number of authors temporarily setting their books at 99 cents for promotional reasons, I thought I'd start a discussion here to keep track of them.

For authors who post something here, if possible state when the 99 cent sale ends. I'd like to differentiate the books in this discussion from those that are always at 99 cents, so please only post regarding books that are temporarily discounted, and try to state when the sale ends (or else it doesn't sound temporary... it's like one of those businesses that is perpetually going out of business!)

(And as a side note: I know there is a similar discussion in the Kindle Books community, but no one really seems to read or post there, so this seemed like a more bustling place to start this)

Laura Freed says:
Hi Rudolf - Thanks for this opportunity!
Fleeing Famous (SpellBound Cafe) is .99 cents and will increase to 2.99 when the next book in the series is published - 11/14/2010.

Fleeing Famous (based on real events) is the story of how one woman finds her destiny (and assorted muffins/cakes/pies) on the road she takes to avoid it.

"Sometimes, it takes starting from scratch, throwing away everything you ever thought to be true, in order to achieve the most desirable outcome." Sadie Cake, owner of the SpellBound Café.

Have you ever felt lost? Or that life didn't exactly turn out the way you wanted? Have you ever felt like just getting in your car and driving. Did you ever wish you could start over? For Moxie Baker (not her real name), growing up the daughter of a famous Rockstar and a 3 time Oscar winning mother, life was no picnic.

Moxie Baker is on the way to discuss the reality show her family wants her to be a part of, when, distracted by her cell phone, she almost runs over a hitchhiker. Feeling guilty, she gives the hitchhiker a ride to the train station, becomes lost after she drops her off, and ends up in the town of Sugar Hollow Harbor. . . a hidden, cozy, town you won't find on a map.

In Sugar Hollow Harbor, you'll find sweetness hidden in the shadows, and on the corner of Main and Baker's Lane, you'll find The SpellBound Cafe run by Rowdy Bacon, (known around town as the Kitchen Bitch) and Sadie Cake (known as the Cake Witch). Moxie finds herself working at the café, and begins to journal about her new life which led to the SpellBound Cafe book series: stories about Food, Friendship, and Fortunate Events.

If you have a dream somewhere inside of you, a hunger that has gone unfulfilled, you can escape to Sugar Hollow Harbor and feed your dreams.

And, of course, I'll start with my own book: The Year We Finally Solved Everything, which has just been released and is 99 cents for the entire month of November.

Set against the backdrop of an economic catastrophe, The Year We Finally Solved Everything is a dark, surreal, and fast-paced novel about settling down, growing up, and all that mess in between the two.

The global economy is in tatters not because of humanity's faults but because of its accomplishment. The country of Shan Won, a small island state off the coast of China, has cured all of our ills, and like a black hole, a piercing singularity of perfection, it's sucking the world dry of its stability and leadership and power.

Human traffickers become overwhelmed with smuggling hordes of North Americans across to Asia for a better life. And for Richard, for whom growing up seems to have solved nothing at all, escape seems to be his only option. But when he become reacquainted with Mia, the girlfriend of his twenties, he's no longer certain about just what's the problem and what's the solution. He only knows that he's running out of time.

Once it's December, The Year We Finally Solved Everything will be $2.99, which is still dirt cheap (well, maybe not dirt cheap, but cheap-plastic-Walmart-crap cheap)

Oh, and if you check out Smashwords you can get a longer sample (but it's not 99 cents)

EDIT: And see my later post about my 99 cent sale for my first book, The Adventures of Whatley Tupper: A Choose Your Own.... It's a comedic choose-your-own-adventure for adults, which works perfectly on the Kindle. It's an hilariously absurd story about a middle-aged janitor in a university. ONLY ON SALE UNTIL NOVEMBER 11TH!

NO GOOD DEED is on sale until December 1st or until I get the sequel out--which ever comes first. I'm having some issues at home so I'm a bit behind on my writing schedule.

Now 99 cents for the month of November: The Ryel Saga: A Tale of Love and Magic, epic, immersive fantasy set in an exotic, atypical world. Red Adept Reviews has awarded it five stars.

Lord Adept Ryel Mirai leaves the great Art-citadel Markul to rediscover the long-lost spell that will release his mentor from the wraithworld of the Void, but a malignant sorcerer likewise imprisoned has enlisted the aid of Ryel's strongest rival to find the spell first. Amid dangers, joys and temptations, Ryel discovers unlikely allies to help him in his quest, and learns that he may well gain all that he wishes...although perhaps not as he wished it.

Visit my website at for a full synopsis, the entire first chapter, print media reviews, my bio, photography, most recent interviews, and highly-rated short fiction. Try a sample *especially* if you think all fantasy sounds alike.

Okay, first I'm going to say: Anyone who loves fantasy should run not walk over to click on the Ryel Saga at this amazing price. I was reading some excerpts at the (other place) the other day and I was blown away by the drama and imagery!

If you have any pennies left over for a space opera romance with a Firefly vibe, my novella Space Junque (In Flagrante Apocalypto 1) is on sale for 99 cents until November 14 - just a week from today. It may never be 99 cents again (because I just think that's way too cheap for a professionally edited book with great cover art...but that's another discussion, ha).

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2010 3:31:15 PM PST
LK, I'm humbled by your kindness. It's such a thrill to be read with care; many, many thanks.

And the best of success with your own book! 99 cents is, I agree, a steal.

The Chosen is on sale for .99 for the month of November ( and maybe December). Recently compared to Dogma and The Life of Brian, The Chosen is a comic contemporary fantasy with angels, demons, immortals, strippers, motorcycles and bar fights. Fun for the whole dysfunctional family! The Chosen

Thanks to those who have purchased my book, I hope you enjoy it. And thanks to those authors who are keeping the thread alive with their own 99 cent promotions--but please remember, only to post a book if it's on sale for a limited time!

DATING MY VIBRATOR (and other true fiction) a collection of nine short stories is on sale for .99 cents through New Year's Day. (originally $2.99)

J.A. Konrath gave it a 5 star review and says, "Pure Comedic Brilliance."

Please check it out!

Here's a description:
Dating My Vibrator and other true fiction is a collection of nine true and almost true short stories all based (unfortunately) on my own experience. After nineteen years of marriage I was thrust into a brave new world of dating: online, offline, standing in line, listening to lines. And I have survived to tell these tales. Dating, divorce, desperation-all that good stuff. CAUTION: if you're contemplating divorce, these stories may convince you to consider marriage counseling. If you're out there dating, chances are you will relate. OMG! Here's a scary thought: maybe you've met some of these guys. Names have been changed to protect the guilty.

Self Arrest is on sale for $0.99 for the month of November.

It's a fast-paced thriller set in the mountains of Colorado. Here's the description:

Over fifty million people died when the Spanish Flu swept the globe in 1918. The virus attacked the young and healthy, dealing a crippling blow to a world still reeling from the horrors of the First World War. It wormed its way into communities large and small, killing mercilessly, before abruptly vanishing without a trace in the summer of 1920.

That was then.

In 2005, scientists completed sequencing the genetic code of the Spanish Flu. The following year, they infected monkeys with a reanimated strain of the very same virus.

The monkeys exhibited classic symptoms of the 1918 Spanish Flu.

Then they died.

This is now.

In the course of a routine transfer between government facilities, a team of ruthless mercenaries intercepts a supply of a highly engineered Spanish Flu virus.

Gage Mercer, the future son in law of a deranged billionaire, finds himself drawn into a plot to trigger the extinction of the human race through a deliberate release of the virus.

This could be the future.

My serial killer thriller, Top Ten, originally published by Putnam, is on sale for .99 until the end of November. What is Top Ten about?

'A killer who believes himself an artist of unmatched talent is incensed when he is placed last on the FBI's most wanted list, and begins killing off those fugitives above him, each in a twisted manner that serves his creative vision.

But his horrific climb to the top, which leaves both guilty and innocent dead in its wake, must be stopped by a young, driven FBI agent who is given an almost impossible and equally inexplicable task- save number five on the list.

At all costs.'

I hope you check it out and enjoy!

Hey, everyone. My latest Romantic Suspense novel, Under The Moon's Shadow, is on sale right now for $0.99. It's set in a small, fictional town in southern Indiana, is the second in a series, and will be on sale through November 11th.

Small town life can be very dangerous...
Something ominous is hovering over the town of Leroy, Indiana. People are vanishing - drug addicts, illegals, people whose disappearances are less likely to be investigated. Amid swirling rumors of altars, devil worshipping and sacrifice, reporter Beth Hudson's investigation into the whereabouts of the missing has led her deeper and deeper into the clutches of a killer. Certain the strange occurrences are connected, Beth struggles to stay focused on the story as her relationship with Detective Ethan Moore takes a tragic turn. Can she figure out what is going on and stop a killer, or will she become another one of the victims?

Carolyn and others, I am a true newbie to fantasy. I have become addicted to Mull's Fablehaven series trying to research appropriate fantasy for a grandchild. I don't particularly care for a ton of sex but I love intelligence, the mystery of (un)human nature and the twists and turns of relationships. Do you think the Ryel Saga would be of my taste when I am done with the YA fantasy?
