I have tried everywhere and I can't find the battery that replaces the one in my Kindle 2nd generation. I don't want to send it in to Amazon because I've heard they send you a refurbished one and mine doesn't have a scratch on it but it's not hold ing the charge for more than 4 days with the wirelsess off... :(

**Meya** says:
Before you mess with changing the battery, try a restart. Menu/Settings/Menu again/Restart.

That helped both my K2i and my DXG when the batteries seemed to be losing steam. You could check for a book or books stuck indexing. Search for a nonsense word and see if you get any results.

I called about mine and have to download the update to 2.5.8. They said it might help battery life due to indexing. Did it yesterday and see how it goes. I bought the extended warranty when I bought it so I have until March 2012 for anything major. They said they would replace battery if the update doesn't work. Call customer service and they will help you. Good luck.

Did a restart. Lets see what happens in a couple of days. Put a book in search and it brought it up. How would I check for a book that might be stuck indexing? Thanks so much for the help! :)

Heidi says:
Hi BMN- Thanks I haven't downloaded the update. Will do that at home today. Thank you!

Hi...I opened the back of my kindle and the battery model # is different from the others. I think my best bet is going to be to order it from Amazon and install it myself. Thanks!

@Heidi

To see if your Kindle is stuck on indexing do what "$¿»%" described: search for a nonsense word. Just use some nonsense combination of letters, search, and if your Kindle is indexing the search results will show that -- in which case, delete the book. (You can download it again later.) Charge your Kindle fully then use it normally and see if the battery holds the charge or not. If not, call Kindle CS.

By the way, don't be fearful of refurbs. I bought one to use as a back-up and have been very pleased with it. It arrived in pristine condition and works perfectly. It is virtually indistinguishable from my original.

Heidi says:
Okay. That doesn't appear to be a problem. I tried it and it just came back up with no result. Thanks you!

The Model # on the battery inside my kindle ends in a "B". All the others end in "A".

They will replace the battery, but you won't get the same device back, if I've understood past discussions about this topic.

Yep, I picked up the same thing....maybe I'll just muddle along until they come out with the kindle 4, hopefully, at the end of the year.

Heidi, the batteries are even available at Amazon.

You can find them cheaper at other sites. Try a Google search. I just did and got a ton of results. I have changed mine already.

Heidi, mine is a D00511. So I assume that yours is the global or ATT model. If so I easily found at least one replacement here:

Ok I stand corrected. The fine print says it will not work in the D00701 but they offer you an opportunity to be notified by email when that battery becomes available.

Heidi says:
Hey there sailorman...therin lies the problem...see the following from that.."Works in all Kindle 2 models except D00701. If you would like us to notify you when we have a battery available for Kindle 2 model D00701, please email us at support@NewPower99.com".

I have Model #D00701, therefore the battery does not work on my model.....I ordered that same battery, opened my kndle, installed it and it did not power the kindle. They just sent me the info to mail it back.
