My Kindle has suddenly stopped going tot he home screen when I hit home. Pressing home goes to the Kindle store home page. I have new books that I downloaded and now can't read because I can't get to them. Can anyone help? I have charged, reset and tried in settings where I have a strong wireless signal...nothing worked.

How did you reset? If the buttons are responding, click Menu/Settings/Menu again/Restart.

If the buttons aren't responding, hold the power button for 30 full seconds. Set it down and let it reboot.

Please help with this issue. If this is the solution I must do each time I have this problem, I'm going to be a little fed up. Thanks for the time you've put into helping us!

Roxiie...you've posted to an old thread. What type of problem are you having? Which Kindle do you have?

I have a similar problem. I received the Kindle 3G for Christmas and have read two books. I cannot get the screen off the Kindle store. I cannot access anything but the Kindle store. The Menu sends me there, tapping the top of the screen sends me there. Turning it off and on just keeps me in the store. It is very frustrating since the directions to use the Kindle are electronically stored and I cannot access them either.

Gene, you too have posted in an old thread. Is your Kindle a Touch? Have you tapped/clicked the Home Button? That is the button that looks like 3 lines at the bottom center of the device. (if your Kindle is the Touch) You must tell us which Kindle you have in order to get good advice.

My daughter's KK did that, and it wasn't fixed by a turn off (ie. hold power switch for 10 secs) but it was fixed with a hard reset (hold power switch for 30 secs). Just be aware that it then takes a while to reboot, and then comes back to the sleep screen for you to turn back on.

Extra note: it's worth downloading the Kindle for PC/Mac application, so you can access your books (including the manual) on there as well as on the kindle, but you can always read the manual online too.
http://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport/ and choose the "kindle documentation" link on the LH side.

You can also download the Kindle documentation as a PDF file so it's handy to access.

You're right, Pat. I probably should have added that, for the benefit of non-tech-minded people. I forget to say it because nearly every document or file that you access on the web can be downloaded and saved to your computer, so in my mind that goes without saying :-)

Have you tried this?
1. Turn off your computer.
2. Plug in your Kindle to computer USB port.
3. Turn on computer and boot normally.
4. See if your Kindle is visible as a drive in Windows Explorer.

After adding a few book, my Kindle Touch stop going to home screen when I hit home button. So now I can't read any more. I can still access Amazon store and internet.
I try hard reset several times but the problem still remain. After that, I connected to computer and deleted the newly added file but cannot solve the problem.
Can anyone help me?

G.M. Bramlette, Do you get any type of error message at all when plugging the USB into the computer?

A 2004 model computer model computer may be equipped with the old version 1.0 usb ports, whereas the Kindles need the 2.0 versions.

I have a kindle keyboard 3g with wifi, which i bought last year. Everything worked fine, till two days ago. Since then, when i press the home button, it goes into the kindle store front. I've turned it completely off a few times. But it still keeps doing the same thing. Pressing back a few times gets me to the last book i read. But can't get further back than that. I even ended up buying another book from the store, and it has been downloaded(I can see when i access the kindle from the keyboard). So, i can't reading a new book at all.

Ravi, you have posted to a very old thread. That is most likely why you aren't getting any replies.

You need to reboot your Kindle. Turning it off and on isn't the same thing.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Set it down and let it reboot, which can take a few minutes. It should operate correctly afterwards.

Hey Meya,
thanks. I somehow thought that rebooting it meant turning it off(as opposed to standby), and turning it on again. I didn't realise there was another option. Though, is there a good reason what causes this to happen.

I also could not access my home page. I tried the hard reset and it worked, but is there anything I can do to stop this from happening again?
