Hi Gang,

I'm a new kindle user and having a little problem. While putting the unit to sleep and waking it up as no problem if it's only a few minutes, if it goes to sleep for an extended period of time, I cannot wake it up with the ALT + aA key combination. I have to physically turn the unit off and turn it back on. Am I missing something?

I've had the same problem. I've had to reset my Kindle when this happens. I suggest keeping a paper clip with you just for this purpose.

Sounds to me like you both have defective Kindles. Contact customer service about this--they have been great about replacing Kindles that people have had problems with.

I agree with the others, something is wrong, so give Amazon a call.

In the five months I've had mine , I put it to sleep and awaken it many, many times every day.

Some folks have noted that the Kindle tends to freeze if the battery charge is getting too low so that might be another thing you want to check.

You can do a hard reset with the paper clip or by pressing the alt-up arrow-R keys.

I had the same problem and Amazon sent me a tiny defibrillator with two small leads that allowed me to zap my baby back to life...............

Just as a bit of follow up ... I called Amazon and they had me to a hard reset and than a firmware restore and it still didn't fix it. They are sending me a replacement Kindle. Overall, it was a very good customer experience (except for the new toy being broken)
