It's a little after 10pm PST and my Kindle blanked out for updates about 15 minutes ago. When it came back to the home page, all of my archived items were missing! They still exist on my Amazon account, but are not listed on the Kindle itself. Any idea what happened?

Ah. Thanks kwajkat. I just turned the wireless on again and I don't know if it finally kicked in, or if turning the wireless on simply did the trick, but they are back. I have no idea what the update was but, since it was done through wireless, I guess I assumed it would all sync up on its own. Now I know.

Cheers!

Your archive is simply a list of the items that don't exist on your Kindle but that do exist on your account at Amazon. After your Kindle restarts (for whatever reason), it needs to talk to the Amazon servers over Whispernet to rebuild the archive list. There is nothing bad happening here; it is perfectly normal.

Regarding updates....can someone remind me how to locate the area to find out what version of Kindle software I have AND what is the current version?

Thanks.

From the home screen, click Menu, and go to Settngs. On the bottom it will tell you the version you have. I don't know what the latest one is,. Mine reads 2.1 (337560062) which may not be the latest,

Richard has the DX. That version number is an indication of it.

Thanks Richard...I have 2.1 same as you.
I went to the settings before I asked my question but didn't think (dah!!) to look at the bottom of the screen. :-)
