I charged my Kindle for about an hour last night. Last time I looked my battery was only half drained. The charging light went on and I assumed all was okay. I just went to turn on (take out of sleep mode) my Kindle and the screen is completely blank. Has this happened to anyone else? Do I need a new battery? I'm crying at work because I have NOTHING to read on my lunch break. :(

Have you tried to shut it down (not just put to sleep) and then turn it back on? Are you sure it charged? I had a problem with the adaptor not charging my Kindle... they sent a replacement adaptor.

It was in sleep mode while charging (usually is and have never had a problem with that). When I opened up the cover I could tell it wasn't in sleep mode, no screen saver, and the power button was in the "on" position. I turned it off for about 20 mins and tried again - nothing. I took the back cover off, tried a reset and actually tried to remove the battery but couldn't get it out. I'm hoping that when I get home and charge it for 2 hours it will work again. I've only had the Kindle for 1 year. Maybe I let the battery get too low and then didn't charge it long enough AND still had the power button on all night (whispernet was off). Any thought? Thanks!!

It's a K1... well, do you have an extra battery? I've read problems like this on the board, they get a new battery and it fixes it. But, I'd call CS when you get home and see what they say. A reset might do the trick if you can get the battery to come out. My mom has my K1, so I don't have it in front of me to tell you how to get the battery out.

I had the same problem and contacted tech help. I was told to unplug the adapter and just pust the power sweitch and hold it for about ten seconds and simply wait for 30 seconds and it came right on.

I had the same problem. Try REBOOTING the Kindle. Hold the slide switch to the right for 1 full minute. Then let ti go. The Kindle should reboot. At first it may show no books on your Kindle but they should reappear in a few seconds. If not hit menu and resync.
That worked for me.

It's a K1 so I'm not sure I have a slide switch. Once I'm home with my charger I'll try everything to bring my Kindle back to life. Thank you all.

@William... he has a K1, so he has to do that from the button behind the battery. Oh, you can try a soft reboot by pressing ALT-Shift-R.

A. Barauskas says:
The alt-shift-R didn't work but how do I get the battery out? I tried and it didn't easily slide or snap out. Was afraid to really push.

I'm sure someone will pop on here soon and tell you how to get the battery out. My mom took mine after I got my K2, so I don't have it in front of me and I don't remember exactly how it comes out.
I googled it. It says to push the battery to the back of the compartment and then lift it out.

Guess I was a little too girly.....didn't want to push too hard and break it. I would literally cry. Thanks again.

You're welcome. :-) Let us know if it works after you reboot it.

We had the same problem, held the switch to the right for a full minute and it rebooted itself. Viola, we have our Kindle back!
