Does anyone know if there is a spanish version of Amazon? I'm giving a kindle as a gift to a friend in Peru and want to be sure they will be able to download books etc?

There are books for Kindle in Spanish, but there is no Spanish-language site as of yet. The book choices are a bit limited, but they have improved a lot in the last year. Baby steps.

I translated the instructions for my doctor in Mexico who doesn't speak any English and he's been getting by. I tend to email him book suggestions because finding good books can be a challenge.

There are a lot of classics that have been translated from English, but as far as modern Spanish bestsellers, there aren't nearly enough and most authors' back lists haven't been made available yet, such as Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Octavio Paz, etc.

I have several friends in Mexico with Kindles and although they're not thrilled with the selections currently available, Kindle books are SO much cheaper than books there that they are happy with what they can get so far.

My doctor bought the Kindle because he saw me reading mine and asked if the books were under $40.00 each, I had to laugh because of the complaints here about the price of ebooks. He was going to go to the Book Fair in Guadalajara because there books are 'only' about $30.00USD

Menus are only English. From the Kindle Store/Kindle eBooks, find Foreign Language eBooks in the left column. Libros en espanol is one of the five choices in *that* left column.
Put Peru in the Search field at the top. The AT&T coverage is all "EDGE" and pretty speckled and restricted to population areas (that's where the 3G version would get a signal without relying on WiFi hotspots). But the WiFi works with any unprotected public hotspot or with one's own password protected home wireless router.
