I just thought of a completely new idea for a meeting, but not just for North Carolina. This one would be all over the country. We could pick a day and time--say, 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. If you wanted to participate, you could just show up at your local Starbucks, take out your Kindle, and see who else was there. No sign-ups, no money. Just show up, and buy your own drink. You might meet other Kindlers in your own community, or you might not--if not, just have fun reading! What do you think? (If you don't have a Starbucks in your town, go to whatever local coffee shop is the most popular!) (And no, I don't work for Starbucks. It's just that it's the coffee shop that is most widespread.)

Actually a brilliant idea - a national event in a local venue!

I've used this line once before, but

I'll be the one with the grayscale carnation. :)

but it should be done before the DX comes out - they would just hog the show and those bigger kindles would crowd out the K1s and 2s...

I'll be meeting with myself several times over the long weekend. Self just look for yourself on the couch. Since I have a pretty heavy investment in coffee making equipment I don't have much need to leave the house for coffee. ;-)

I like it --- And a block away, I have two Starbucks on opposite sides of the street. And another 4 blocks away. I will surely find a Kindler.

and Fool for Books, if you have a K1 and a K2 you could be in two places at once! Yep, in my neighborhood there are starbucks about every 6 feet....

Excellent idea, Kathy! Let's do it!

The key will be to make sure we keep this thread alive for the next couple of weeks, to maximize the exposure/publicity . . .

Unfortunately, I have only one K2, but I could definitely stand to lose some weight so running between them will be good for me.

that is great A. Of course folks should meet as they want, but it would be fun to have one "national" kindle day which might take a little longer to get the word out... but maybe the 6th should be the day? what do folks think?

I think June 6...wait, when's Fathers' Day?

Okay, it's June 21. Whew!

I'm also still hoping for June 27 (Helen Keller's birthday) as National the Disabled Deserve to Read no conflict there, either). :)

It's really clever, Kathy! :)

I think this is it! Let's get this on all those Kindle boards on other sites. It'll be viral in no time, and Starbucks everywhere will be overrun by Kindleistas!

well I recommend that give this another day of comment and then someone create a new thread announcing the day and time. Not me - after the NC debacle I am on Homeland Security's watch list....

I like the idea. I'm out of town on June 6, but that's the beauty of this idea. I travel with my Kindle, and there's a starbucks almost everywhere! So there's nearly no excuses.

But, Matthew, if we get the word out here, on other Kindle boards, on Facebook, on Twitter, and who knows how many other forums (or is it fora?) . . . who knows how many Kindleistas might be out there in your general area!

True enough, Doc!

I live up here in the great white north Canada to you my American friends. Tim Horton's would have to be the meeting place for us as honestly I can't even think of where a starbucks is but that probably has to do with me not drinking coffee at all. I was at our big book chain, Chapters, a few weeks ago with the kindle and was sitting in a chair reading it. Someone asked me if I was copying the books and they hoped I realized that was illegal. When I explained what the kindle was the person did not believe me and more or less accused me of lying and of being a theif. I laughed pretty hard as did my 12 year old who said, "Old people just aren't in touch with today's times!" I felt wonderful that he didn't lump me in with the "old people". As for the great debate last night (I'm totally changing the subject on this I have to admit it kept me sane through some very intense hours. GM announced they would be notifying 300 stores in Canada that they would be closing yesterday and we would find out if we were one of them by the end of the business day. My job worries went away for a little while reading the absolute neediness that some people have to be the center of attention. Anyways, my job and dealership are safe for awhile longer meaning I can buy more books and stay here and be amused on this forum. Now to find that darn starbucks!
