Today, we're pleased to launch Kindle Book Lending, a new feature that lets you loan Kindle books to anyone you choose. The borrower does not need to own a Kindle. Kindle books can be read on Kindle or using our free Kindle reading applications for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices. Each eligible book can be lent once for a period of 14 days. Not all e-books are lendable - the publisher or rights holder determines which titles are enabled for lending. For more information on how to loan Kindle books, please visit http://www.amazon.com/kindle-lending.

Thanks for implementing this new option!

Even though I may not use it much, I think some people will...and it's nice to have the choice.

Given how well Amazon/Kindle runs, I was not worried about you making the 2010 deadline. Good job.

Happy reading/lending to all.

Will a lot of people abuse this and "lend" books to people they do not even know?

Why does the publisher get to determine everything on Amazon? If I bought the book I could lend it to whomever I want and however often I want. Deosn't the Nook allow a user to own it and lend it repeatedly?

I wouldn't call lending to strangers "abuse."

That said, I think the global reach of book lending via the internet and various forums that will be inevitably set up for lending is what leads to publishers disabling the feature on some book and only lending books on such stringent terms.

No. The nook has the same limitations.

You can only lend a book out once so I doubt it. Why waste the one time on someone you don't even know?

So very nice! A great way to sample books amongst friends - and honestly, if I like the book, I will st likely buy a 'permanent' copy for myself. Win/win for everyone, publishers included. Glad it is working out.

Do the Nook doesn't. Kindle's lending terms are IDENTICAL to Nooks.

Publishers get to decide because ebook rights are [currently] different than physical book rights, and the publishers are the rights holders.

Very cool (at least, within the limitations). And a day before the deadline Amazon set for itself!
